Shortwave Broadcast / HELP NEEDED PLEASE!
« on: July 17, 2014, 1130 UTC »
6185   UNIDENTIFIED. Spanish speaker at 1100 with possibly news then into music (distinctly Mexican in style) at 1115. More talk at 1118. Is this XEPPM R. Educacion at an unscheduled time (usual s/off 0500 approx.) or something else?  Weak under China Huayi and faded by 1145. Also monitored on the Lexington Kentucky remote receiver where the signal was a tiny bit stronger (and in the clear with no Chinese QRM).

Any help appreciated. Thanks

Shortwave Broadcast / WWV 25 mHz
« on: July 10, 2014, 0505 UTC »
Apologies for this post being placed in the SWBC forum (I have already posted it in the Utility forum as well).

Can someone Stateside tell me if WWV is still operating on 25 mHz at the present time? I've been hearing seconds ticking off for about the last 7 hours (2200-0500 UTC), but no announcements. Is it operating 24 Hrs (the website says no, but that may be an old notice).

The signal is faint, so perhaps the tick is cutting through but not the voice anncts. If it is WWV, then this is indeed rare reception for 1 kW up on this freq, especially in midwinter when this band is pretty well closed to my part of the world! Solar flux numbers have been very high over the last week, so perhaps it really is WWV…..

Thanks for any advice.

Shortwave Broadcast / BBC WS NF
« on: May 28, 2014, 0029 UTC »
11700   BBC - Location unknown. Special WS programming to Thailand with "Newsday", first noted at 0710, ID at 0720.  Fair signal but QRM from co-channel RFI-Issoudun in French to WAf. This problem is solved when RFI s/off at 0800, May 27. I suspect this broadcast is probably via Kranji.

Shortwave Broadcast / Radio Candip Appears Again….Briefly
« on: May 28, 2014, 0026 UTC »
5066.33 CONGO, DR. R. Candip - Bunia. Another rare sighting of this one at 1845 (last time heard was Jan 21 this year) in French with alternating male and female speakers expressing strong views on ……something! Then several lively Afro pop songs from 1858. Extremely weak signal, fading in and out, hard work digging it out. Finally lost reception around 1905, May 27. With the onset of winter, there's a chance this station may appear more regularly over the next few months.
