Hearing incoherent screaming and whistling. Possible female singing. Too deep in the mud to make anything out so far.

SSN is already 18, I'm hearing tons of new stuff too. Hopefully it will clear up that fuzzy pir8 radio reception.

Coming in readable in eastern ontario, SSB makes heavy metal guitars sound like background noise though. I don't think the two were meant for each other.

Yup that definintley describes what I heard. Is MAC Shortwave legit then or are they pirate? I should have probably been able to ID them when the kid was saying email us at macshortwave@yahoo.com every 5 minutes.

I'm not totally sure if this is a pirate broadcast, but given the total lack of commercials, inane DJs and the interesting programming and music leads me to believe so. Haven't heard a station ID yet and its been 45 minutes. Currently playing Sgt Peppers Lonely hearts club.

General Radio Discussion / Re: Phone line as SW antenna
« on: May 01, 2009, 2304 UTC »
When ringing, the phone line voltage will increase to 90VAC. A .01uf capacitor might attenuate it but why even risk having that voltage anywhere near your receiver's front end? If it isn't possible to setup a dipole, a random wire antenna would still work better then a phone line picking up every AC noise in the neighberhood and there is much less possibility of frying your receiver.

I heard the ID Radio Java International at 0124 EST. That phone call has got to be some of the worst SSB audio that has ever been transmitted!

Let's hope all the radio operators are as keen listeners as you are. Wouldn't want to start a nuclear war by accident.(actually, for any reason)
