I've got some USB music, blues.
0413utc, an ID, Sounded like Chamberpot Radio

I'll have to listen some more to be sure

Edit: Reviewing SDR recording, at 0413utc I hear "Chamberpot Radio and I'm your host, Buster Hymen."

Thanks Buster! If the lightning weren't there, reception would have been pretty good.  Glad to hear you again, and on a Monday night nonetheless.

There are Virtual Audio Cables out there, but you dont need that if you follow these directions from Token:

I think this info would be useful to operators.

With my SDR I can demodulate 24kHz maximum.  But I don't use it because usually the pirate stations I receive are weak and a wider filter helps to a point but after that more noise will enter and render it noisy.

Listening to an SDR recording of KCPR, a pirate on the same side of the Mississippi as me, I was able to tell that I could hear more of the music at 24kHz wide.  The conditions were noisy and at 24kHz the noise was annoying.  So I settled on 16kHz for the best reception quality.

Most SW broadcast stations use 10kHz wide. But a SW Chinese broadcaster has a wider signal that really lets in more sound if I widen my filter to take advantage of it.

I recently learned that a transmitter's power gets used up on whatever music its transmitting. So if you only give it 10kHz, it will focus its power and strengthen that range of bandwidth. And hopefully be more legible for the listeners  ::)

-For the pirate listening mavens, is there a sweet spot that transmitters could shoot for?
-Do you agree it depends on the background noise conditions at the time of broadcast?

0415ish  The Crystal Ship ID
Strong here on Westmoast Coast. Cool song after the ID.
2 tarzan calls and then the ID.

Good music, peppered with some cool skits. There was one about a woman and a wolf or werewolf that was eerie/funny.

About 2 sec. long
Receiver mode: I don't know it looks asymetrical

There I was, minding my own business when this thing blipped by.   It is about 10Hz wide, then it scales out to 15Hz wide.  Notice the line that doesnt scale is not in the center of the transmission.  I used this as the reference for what frequency it was on.

HF Mystery Signals / Dual Side Band data pips?
« on: March 11, 2015, 2202 UTC »
1. 9085kHz  (between twin bursts)
2. 3/10/15 20:05utc
3. 5 sec intervals
4.XCVR mode: USB/LSB, DSB?
5.SW Coast USA
6. Mid-day, I saw some pips on the waterfall.  These are short bursts of data.  Sounds like a short burst of consecutive beeps of differing tones.  There are twin bursts that are asymmetrical.  Assuming the mode is DSB, every once in a while the USB burst will be one solid tone while the LSB has none. LSB sounds like lower tones and USB sounds like higher tones.

Here's a picture:

I got a new SDR and my LCD computer monitor really creates some interference. When I turn off the monitor, the interference goes away. Monitor is connected via serial type cable.

My SDR has one cable, its a USB that goes to the computer.  I obtained 4 toroid ferrites, stacked them, and wrapped the USB cable about 8 times around them. This made the noise go down a lot.  And it refined the noise.

The noise appears in 60hZ increments.

I use an 8-plug surge protector on my computer.  If I plug the monitor and computer directly into the wall socket the noise is still there.

Is this a ground loop?  How can I alleviate this?  Thanks.

Shortwave Broadcast / UNID 9440AM, 0535utc, Jan. 28, 2015
« on: January 28, 2015, 0538 UTC »
Fairly good reception here.  S7 on my meter.  Woman announcer and long winded man (that sounds like he's been recorded from a telephone conversation).  Sounds like African language.

It doesn't show up in my list or on Short-wave.info website.  Even if the station ID'd itself, I'm not sure I would realize it. Any ideas?

Huh? / SDR waterfall visions
« on: January 22, 2015, 1739 UTC »
Watching my new SDR's waterfall is so neat.

After I listen/watch, when I close my eyes I see waterfalls of AM transmissions. They're pretty well defined.  And then in the morning before any radio, I've seen perfectly vertical lines a couple times when I close my eyes.  I think I need to arrange the signals horizontally so I can give my eyes/brain a thorough work out.

So yesterday, I was outside and my eyes were drawn to a jet's contrail with the notion it was a signal on a waterfall!

I even used a new phrase the other day, "I'm going to go watch my radio."

Does this happen to anybody else?
