General Radio Discussion / Re: Power Outage Dilemma

I've been in my house for 20 years and brought a portable to check when I moved in and it was very, very quiet. These days... not so quiet. Most of the noise comes from outside.

When the power goes out, I do see it as an opportunity to DX and often do. It is a world of difference. Although, I'm restricted to the battery operated ones and my larger ones must remain silent (FT-847, NC-183D, NC-125).

Huh? / Re: Might be an interesting time to monitor the CB band for a trucker's rally?

I've had a CB on here for months, usually on ch 19 (sometimes on 13, where a local company is). Have yet to hear anything regarding the convoy. Today the band was wildly open, but never heard anything about the convoy.

I know that the Canadian truckers also have the VHF LADD, but I don't know how much they use that vs CB.
