Heard very weak in New York, stronger on the Twente WebSDR.

Listening with my Tecsun PL-660 receiver with a 40 ft. wire antenna, weak signal with Arabic readings from the Holy Qur'an with English translations. Afterward a middle eastern instrumental composition was played.

I don't know if this is just an error with times or if this is a new transmission, it is the first of the month after all, so who knows.

I know they were supposed to get some more shortwave transmitters this year to boost capacity, so who knows if this is a new service or not.

Time will tell I imagine.

32
Unknown noise/mode, broadcasting presently on ALL frequencies simultaneously in H3E.

Station was heard best in New York on 12290 and 13500 kHz but also audible on 6215 kHz and 8414 kHz.

Signals have been strongest in Europe and are being monitored via the WebSDR, I have provided a recording of the transmission, if anyone can identify this broadcast or shed some light on it, that would be greatly appreciated!!!

Barely above the noise floor on my Tecsun PL-660 receiver in Southern New York, just using the telescopic antenna this time.

Hearing some talk, now at 0341 UTC I am hearing big band music.

No ID thus far.

For the past few days I have been noticing that Radio Kuwait's Arabic Service has been broadcast in place of the English Service on 15540 kHz. With propagation of this frequency still being poor at this time of year, I can only hear it from 1800 UTC to around 1900 UTC, both in New York using my own receiver and using the WebSDR in the Netherlands.

Of course, this may very well be a simple error with the feeds, but every day at 1830 UTC the English news bulletin is broadcast, and then at 1840 UTC the feed goes straight back to the Arabic Service.

Is this simply human error or is this their new English Service? I have no problems with their Arabic Service but I always enjoyed the musical variety their English Service provided.

My variety program will be on WBCQ every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 11:00 PM eastern time until 12:00 Midnight on 5110 kHz.

It's a program consisting of talk for the first 15 minutes (Misc. Discussion, News Headlines, Current Events) followed by music of various genres and time periods for the remaining 45 minutes.

E-mails can be sent to vorwinfo@gmail.com

I've had one show air already and I'll try to keep this going for as long as possible. I'm interested in seeing where this broadcast makes it to and how it comes in.

All the best,

Shortwave Broadcast / Afternoon Logs
« on: September 08, 2014, 2028 UTC »
Today I broke out the Tecsun PL-660 and scanned a section of the 19m band, I was surprised what I was able to pick up so clearly here in New York.

I used the whip antenna, though I did try out the Reel antenna, which for once actually improved signal strength rather than increase the noise floor.

15540 kHz - 4:15 PM Eastern - Radio Kuwait English Service, pop music, no announcements.

15550 kHz USB - 4:15 PM Eastern - WJHR, Milton Florida, religious program, very agitated preacher yelling about various things.

15570 kHz - 4:17 PM Eastern - Radio Vaticana, Announcer speaking in English talking about economics, believed to be broadcast to Africa.

15580 kHz - 4:19 PM Eastern - Voice of America, African music.

15610 kHz - 4:21 PM Eastern - WEWN, Catholic Radio, religious program, booming signal.

Shortwave Broadcast / Deutsche Welle & All India Radio
« on: August 14, 2014, 0331 UTC »
Hello all, managed to pick up these two stations this afternoon on the 31m band from my location in New York.

Deutsche Welle - 9655 kHz - Strong Signal, presumably broadcast from Kigali transmitter to Africa. Talk program about impoverished children in Pakistan. Listened between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM Eastern time.

All India Radio - 9445 kHz - Prominent Signal, some fading. Announcer talking about the Indian Space Program and the future of it, followed by Indian music. Listened between 5:00 PM and 6:30 PM Eastern time.

Surprised I haven't caught those two stations before at this time, I normally do a full scan of all the open bands from 5 until 6.

That is all,

Shortwave Broadcast / All India Radio?
« on: July 30, 2014, 2259 UTC »
Hello all, I have posted on this board once or twice before. I have been a shortwave listener for several years but lately I did most of my listening via a WebSDR. In June however I bought a Tecsun PL-660 shortwave radio and I finally can listen from my own location, that being southern New York. I have heard a slew of international broadcasters and I finally managed to pick up the BBC world service clearly on two frequencies this afternoon. While I have managed to hear many of the major broadcasters with just the telescopic antenna, there is one name that I have yet to hear - that being All India Radio.

I'm just wondering if there are any frequencies/times which I might be able to hear All India Radio in Eastern North America. I know I could browse a few online schedules and see what there is, but I always prefer asking real people first.

Regards,

Hello all, today was rather disappointing in terms of actual messages, however I was able to catch the rare two-message S06 variant, S06e. Last heard in 2011, hearing this station alone made up for all the nulls, E07a is now just an added bonus.

As always, all were recorded via the University of Twente WebSDR, however the last minute or so of the S06e message was recorded via external microphone.
