Coming in loud in Southern New York, heard on my Tecsun PL-660 with just the telescopic antenna, right next to my computer too!

The Voice of America comes in great on 6080 kHz in the evenings here in New York, in the late afternoons it's heard in English on 15580 kHz, though signal strength fluctuates depending on the transmitter site used. Back in November/December of 2014 they used the Greenville Transmitter site for the 15580 kHz broadcast and the signal was a constant S9 +40. Nowadays it's a lot weaker.

MW Loggings / Re: Local WRCR moved from 1300 kHz to 1700 kHz

Presently in Lynchburg, Southern Virginia for a week so I decided to check WRCR's reception here.

In the evenings and at night the station is weak but audible on the car radio, on the Tecsun PL-660 receiver it is inaudible indoors, weaker outside in an area free of RF Interference.

Shortwave Broadcast / Re: Radio Riyadh 15170 3:54 July 18 2015

Singing/chanting coming in very clear in Tucson. Very excited to catch this! Is this relayed? Short-wave.info says the source is Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Radio Riyadh is only transmitted out of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia but they do use 500 kW transmitters, so it's no surprise that they made it into Tucson.

Radio Riyadh makes it in here in New York with clarity on a number of frequencies.

MW Loggings / Local WRCR moved from 1300 kHz to 1700 kHz
« on: July 13, 2015, 0002 UTC »
Here in Rockland County New York, north of the city, our local AM station WRCR which has historically broadcast on 1300 kHz with a daytime power of 500 watts, nighttime power of 83 watts has now moved to 1700 kHz.

Likewise, a new transmitter and tower have been constructed, with the daytime power now at 10 kW and the nighttime power at 1 kW.

While the formal move to 1700 kHz takes place tomorrow, 7/13 , they are testing on 1700 kHz now with 3 kW power and 1 kW at night. If you're in the New England/Mid Atlantic region, maybe you'll be able to catch this station if conditions ever allow. Normally, this station broadcasts a mix of adult contemporary music, with talk programs usually in the mornings and weekends.

I wish I could see how far this station could be heard, but since I live about 10 miles from the station, it'll be strong 24/7.

Shortwave Broadcast / Re: Radio Kuwait 15540 kHz 1800-2100z
« on: July 07, 2015, 1756 UTC »
Shortwave broadcasts from Kuwait got cut back.

Radio Kuwait has reduced its broadcasts on shortwave. The transmission of broadcasts in English, Tagalog and Urdu is also dispensed, along with 15 hours of main program in Arabic-language.

Shortwave transmitters are used now as follows:

02.00-07.50 UTC, 5960 kHz; The main program for the Gulf region
05.00-09.00 UTC, 15515 kHz; Main program for East Asia
08.00-10.00 UTC, 7250 kHz; Persian for Iran
09.30-16.00 UTC, 11630 kHz; Quran program for Africa
17.00-20.00 UTC, 13650 kHz; Main program for North America
20.10-00.00 UTC, 17550 kHz; Main program for North America

This schedule is know since 06/16/2015.

That's honestly a shame, Radio Kuwait was one of my favorites. Lately I've been having difficulties hearing this schedule, and I check numerous resources daily.

If I do hear them though I'm writing to them immediately to try to get a QSL card, which I stupidly only started collecting this year.

Nope, I used to listen to Radio Kuwait's English Service every day last year. They used to come in great here in New York, and they had a great selection of tunes which they played.

It appears that they aren't even on the air anymore, I check all their frequencies here and using a WebSDR in the Netherlands and I get nothing on all of them, every day.

For instance, at 1927z here's what I hear:

Radio Kuwait - Arabic - 6050 kHz - Nothing via WebSDR program, when it usually is booming in.
Radio Kuwait - Arabic - 13650 kHz - Nothing via WebSDR program or my receiver, just a few weeks ago this frequency was still in use.
Radio Kuwait - English - 15540 kHz - Nothing via WebSDR program or my receiver, has been quiet since February/March

And the list could continue. It seems like there might be issues with their transmitters and perhaps due to lack of caring or maybe lack of communication, nobody has bothered to fix them.

Who knows, I just wish there was a means to contact them and find out what is going on, as they were one of my favorite stations.

I can still hope they'll come back one day.

Thanks! I'll definitely be checking the airwaves regularly here in New York to see if I can pick up anything.

That is indeed Radio Verdad, this is really the first low powered Central/South American station I've ever heard. Back in the Winter I heard it too, and at night I can go outside and still pick this station up. Amazing since it's such low power, I imagine either the antenna or the frequency chosen is excellent.

I ought to write them a reception report, that would be a pretty neat QSL card to get.

Here's the frequency, showing that Radio Verdad is its only occupant. I'm in New York and I sometimes hear Radio Verdad just with my Tecsum PL-660 with the telescopic antenna, even indoors sometimes.

Heard very weak in New York, stronger on the Twente WebSDR.

Listening with my Tecsun PL-660 receiver with a 40 ft. wire antenna, weak signal with Arabic readings from the Holy Qur'an with English translations. Afterward a middle eastern instrumental composition was played.

I don't know if this is just an error with times or if this is a new transmission, it is the first of the month after all, so who knows.

I know they were supposed to get some more shortwave transmitters this year to boost capacity, so who knows if this is a new service or not.

Time will tell I imagine.

Unknown noise/mode, broadcasting presently on ALL frequencies simultaneously in H3E.

Station was heard best in New York on 12290 and 13500 kHz but also audible on 6215 kHz and 8414 kHz.

Signals have been strongest in Europe and are being monitored via the WebSDR, I have provided a recording of the transmission, if anyone can identify this broadcast or shed some light on it, that would be greatly appreciated!!!

Old Time Radio is what we've been calling them, RW. they've been going 24/7 on that frequency for nearly two years

They were running Burns and Allen about that time last night.

Thank you Pigmeat! I mostly stick to shortwave broadcast stations, so I don't know the ins and outs of the Pirate community, thank you again!

Coming in good tonight in New York, decent signal, 44334, I always enjoy picking up Radio New Zealand International at night on my Tecsun PL-660 receiver, great station and it's always a pleasure to listen to.

104
Here are some recent loggings of Radio Romania International in Southern New York, as always I listened outside with my Tecsun PL-660 shortwave receiver, the telescopic antenna was only used:

Radio Romania International - 9730 kHz - 6/23/15 from 0020 UTC through 0056 UTC - Listenable signal with moderate to severe fading.
Radio Romania International - 15170 kHz - 6/23/15 from 2030 UTC through 2100 UTC - Inaudible.

I did write a reception report for the 9730 kHz broadcast in hopes of getting their latest QSL card.

Barely above the noise floor on my Tecsun PL-660 receiver in Southern New York, just using the telescopic antenna this time.

Hearing some talk, now at 0341 UTC I am hearing big band music.

No ID thus far.
