MDK2;

Fred Smith is right; once you get the mini whip up, you should be able to hear a lot more.  That, with an SDR, would allow you to log hundreds of beacons, and you are located in a good area to hear much of the USA and Canada.

Be forewarned that NDB DXing is highly contagious; I DXed them in the 80's and 90's, and resumed a few years ago.  With a solar minimum a couple of years off, LW props will most likely get better and better.  It's a good time to start getting ready.

AP is a regular here in Chicago at 1451 km.  I have had the good fortune to hear all 8 active NDBs in CO this season.

I like to think that just having 12 mods, which by the way I didn't know till you pointed out, is that it is the 12 star signs.

Interesting. I wonder if each moderator was born under a different sign, thus representing the entire Zodiac.

I can't speak for the others, but I've been down since I began to crawl.

Don't know nothing about N30, and never used it.  High mu mixes such as 43 and 77 work wonders at MW to lower HF in cleanup chokes.

At lower freqs, I have used a number of FT-140A-W for chokes and transformers, and I think this mix has worked a little better for me.  You can get a dozen turns of a USB cable through the aperture of this core.

DGPS / Re: DGPS Logs 20-21 Dec 2016
« on: December 21, 2016, 1539 UTC »
When the NS component is flat and near 1, I note good props.  To which direction?  It varies, but I have been able to see that props from the North, generally Canada, become depressed when the NS component changes markedly.  I have been able to note prop changes in overnite recordings which seem to jive with this plot.

I have been using this as a guide which MIGHT give an indication as to where to DX during live sessions.  If the NS component is low and well behaved, I will go after stubborn targets to the North (the Maritimes to AB).  Otherwise I will go after targets to the South (TX to the Carolinas).

In all cases, you still have to play the game, no matter how crappy things look.

An interesting use of the short term plot is finding that time during which conditions flip; props can be very interesting then, with favored directions becoming quite unpredictable.

I have made no correlations with the EW component.

LF propagation is so fickle and interesting.  It's fascinating to see how quickly an opening to a very particular area can occur.

One can only imagine what's going on up there.
