North American MW Pirate Radio / UNID 1620 AM 0240 UTC 19 DEC 2022
« on: December 19, 2022, 0245 UTC »
Excellent signal and overall great audio from this no-name pirate airing old-time Christmas music right now at 0240 UTC.

Popping up at 2225 with Rush "Spirit of Radio", about S7-S8 here.

Good signal well over the Hudson TIS at times with oldies, many IDs mentioning AM 1710 & FM 87.7 and being an affiliate to the "Community Radio Network", and a local phone number given soliciting song requests.  Signed off at 0200 UTC with time pips at the TOH and ending with the National Anthem.  Good to hear this one again and not heard by me in years.

20
I'm hearing Queen's "Radio Ga-Ga" just above the noise @ 0048 UTC.

UNID RTTY or similar signal noted at 1900 UTC, 250 Hz wide.  Mode looks similar to NAVTEX.  Any ideas?  Fairly weak but steady however I was unable to decode it.  Any ideas who would occupy this frequency?

MW Loggings / WKYI Transmitter Spur 1730 FM 0329 UTC 6 FEB 2022

Yes, you read that right - someone with music in FM on 1730-1731 kHz @ 0329 UTC.  S9 on peaks but still a difficult copy here with music and talk.  Unsure if this is some kind of harmonic or a pirate at this point.

0333 UTC: Jimmy Buffett - Margaritaville
0345 UTC: Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer
0353 UTC: Talk and announcements but I can't get a clear copy to understand any of it.  Maybe this is a relay of a commercial station?
0354 UTC: John Mellencamp - Ain't That America
0401 UTC: More talk, but not intelligible here
0405 UTC: Sounds like top of the hour network news that I would typically hear on a commercial broadcast station.
0406 UTC: Bryan Adams - Summer of '69
0418 UTC: ZZ Top - La Grange

Mystery solved (to some extent).  Music and talk matches the webstream for AM 1600 (& FM 94.1) WKYI:  https://www.my941fm.com/

Unsure if this a relay or some kind of oddball harmonic or mixing product at the transmitter.  It's being heard by DXers in Ontario and South Carolina and is not local to my receiver.

Strong signal currently with Led Zeppelin @ 0240 UTC, S9+10

Undercover Radio ID @ 0241 UTC!

Off @ 0344 UTC.  Thanks for the MW broadcast, great to hear your show again on the airwaves!

My UNID morning 1710 pirate just barely rising above the noise floor with Sheriff's "When I'm With You" that ended at 11:44.  Only audible for a minute and then vanished back into the depths of the noise while transitioning into the next song.  ID?

25
Again, ever so slightly above my noise floor and off my West DKAZ loop that does a great job of nulling the Hudson TIS out of existence.  Brief audio fade-ups near my local sunrise with what I can only describe as sounding like opera music.

26
0955z: Extremely faint music which sounded like the beginning of "Kyrie" by Mr. Mister @ 0955 UTC but gone as quickly as it faded in so I can't confirm the song.

1003z: Faded back up briefly with Men at Work "Down Under".

1024z: Survivor "Eye Of The Tiger"

1028z: Almost imaginary, but sounds like Yes "Owner of a lonely heart".

1039z: Another momentary peak barely above the noise floor with Tears for Fears "Everybody wants to rule the world".

Thanks for the 80s tunes this morning, whoever you were!

Oldies with no announcements, great signal off my East antenna:

0158z: Herman's Hermits "Mrs. Brown You've Got A Lovely Daughter" S9+10
0204z: Ray Charles Singers "Love me with all your heart" S9+20
0206z: Bob Seger "Still the same" S9+10
0209z: Jerry Butler "Never give you up" S9+15
0213z: Flying Machine "Smile a little smile for me" S9
0215z: Frankie Valli "I've got you under my skin" S9+20!
0220z: Frankie Valli "Save it for me" S9+10
0222z: Gene Piney "Town without pity" S9+20
0225z: Betty Everett "Shoop Shoop song" S9+15
0227z: Andy Kim "Rock me gently" S9+20

Greek pirate?  Fading up slightly above my quiet noise floor with electronic dance music on peaks.  Very weak into West Michigan and parallel to what I'm hearing much stronger on a Greek SDR right now.

A big thanks to WDOG for QSL'ing my 1987 off-air recording!  I hope to hear you again in the near future!

Late log.  Test transmission heard by a teenage kilokat7 in 1987 by WDOG with a series of awesome Gary Numan songs that were brand new to me at the time and rocked my world!

PLS QSL if the current WDOG is the old WDOG heard in my 1987 recording: WDOG – 7415 kHz – October 10th, 1987 – 0014 UTC

Recorded off my GE 7-2990A "World Monitor" with a wire strung through a tree from West Michigan.  Good memories.
