MW Loggings / UNID 1720 AM 0325-0338* UTC 11/16/2013
« on: November 16, 2013, 0344 UTC »
I was monitoring 1710 and noticed an AM carrier come up on 1720 around 0325 UTC.  There seemed to be weak audio associated with it when the signal peaked, but it was too weak to comprehend anything.  Carrier went off at 0338, perhaps someone testing?

UNID on 1710.009 kHz with continuous R&B songs, S3-S4 signal.  This doesn't sound like the "W807" Chicago station to me, but I could be wrong.  No announcements heard yet.  Signal still hanging on despite the sun coming up now...

Phonetic calls with a few different players and intermittent data bursts between contacts that I haven't heard before, sounds like military comms.

Very weak YL with weather // to 2116 kHz.  2129 was slightly better.  Just stumbled across this while looking for beacon "A" on 2097 (which was doing fine BTW).  First time hearing this weather station here.

Has anyone ever heard this net on 4441?  I wonder how far it reaches?  I'll be paying closer attention to 4441 after reading this article:

Shortwave Broadcast / 90 Meter PNG Bandscan 1141 UTC 9/15/2013
« on: September 15, 2013, 1147 UTC »
Some good signals yesterday morning and this morning from PNG land: 3260, 3325, 3365 and 3385 have all been in with audio.  3260 and 3385 are usually the strongest here.  3260 has some lively local flavored music right now.  Yesterday morning 3385 had music and commercials in English, while other talk was in presumed Tok Pisin language.  There's even a FAX signal coming in now on 3247, EIBI says this is probably Wellington, NZ. though I can't decode it.

MW Loggings / 760 KTKR San Antonio 1120 UTC 9/2/13
« on: September 10, 2013, 1554 UTC »
An old log, from Labor Day morning, but here's another from the SDR recording that was logged about an hour after KMTL was heard as mentioned in a previous thread.  This one is new here:

760 KTKR San Antonio, TX. 1120 UTC 9/2/2013 - Weak but clear under phased WJR, presumed on day pattern with a string of ads for some San Antonio businesses including Red McCombs Toyota on I-10 and others.  No official ID, but this is good enough for the log book.  I'm surprised any signal makes it up this way after looking at their pattern:

Shortwave Broadcast / 3260 Radio Madang 1115 UTC 9/7/2013
« on: September 07, 2013, 1126 UTC »
Great copy of Radio Madang right now on 3260 with local talk and local flavored music.  S6, fairly solid with little fade.  Nothing else notable from PNG coming in on 90 meters, which is a bit odd.

750 YVKS RCR Radio Caracas beating up WSB tonight with YL SS talk clearly parallel to their webstream, 2500 miles to the South.  Not a common one for me to hear.

MW Loggings / 1566 TWR Benin, Africa 0340z 8/31/2013
« on: August 31, 2013, 0349 UTC »
In very well right now with consistent audio, English announcements earlier followed by local music and then a nice ID.  0345 UTC and now in local African language.  Probably the best I've heard Benin here on medium wave.

MW Loggings / 783 Mauretania (TENT) 0238z 8/30/2013
« on: August 30, 2013, 0316 UTC »
Phasing down WBBM the best I can, I've been seeing a carrier fading in the last two nights on 783 beginning around 0200z on the SDR's waterfall.  Waiting through the fades, it will occasionaly peak to weak audio with Middle Eastern chanting or similar.  The audio heard doesn't seem to match Syria on 783 as checked against a remote receiver, so this is likely Mauretania reaching Michigan.  Oddly, not a trace of any other MW signals from across the pond right now.

Equipment / HF in the car?
« on: August 25, 2013, 1342 UTC »
Just curious if anyone has HF receive capabilities in their vehicles?  If so, what are you using for receiver and antenna?  What kind of results do you get, and what can be expected?  Is electrical noise an issue for you?
