North American MW Pirate Radio / 1710 KHz "The Big Q" 0230 UTC 9/29/2012
« on: September 29, 2012, 0233 UTC »
"The Big Q" is being heard here right now at 0226 UTC on 1710 KHz and
much weaker than previous receptions.  I haven't heard this one since
earlier this year.  Chickenman skits, oldies, AM glory days nostalgia
programming, etc.  Always a fun listen.  Also, I never recall hearing
"The Big Q" so early in the evening.  Thanks for the show Q!

Update: 0355 UTC and still there but rough due to co-channel Radio Celestial from the Bronx and the New Jersey TIS station that has recently parked here.  1710 has become a bit of a mess.

Stevie Ray Vaughan songs, decent signal with some fading, S5-S7, haven't caught an ID yet.  Terrible static levels tonight.  RTN live ID at 0305 UTC

Hearing a faint BOR in the high static tonight, IDs at 0224 UTC.  A recheck at 0244 shows the signal level has come up during "Singing in the Rain"

Signing on it sounds like right now at 0049 UTC, wide audio and tripping the pilot stereo light - C-QUAM stereo!  Static horrible for me right now though making reception difficult :(

0050 UTC: "X-FM is now on the air"

Stereo audio recording from 0102-0138 UTC @ 20 KHz wide:

Decent signal with continuous dogs barking and yelping for the interval signal, program started promptly at 0000 UTC, ID and music, but there's a wide UTE from about 6953 to 6955 interfering a bit.  Thanks for the show tonight!

Multiple IDs (thanks for this!) along with numerous "White Punks On Dope" IDs, punk-ish music, slightly weak signal around S4 but making it through the noise.

353
Testing, with music, shoutouts, and live ID at 0500 UTC.  S4 to S5, no interference, decent copy here.

Weak with Black Sabbath's "Supernaut" then off.

356
S8 fading down to S6, high static, with unrecognized modern tune with slower electronic beat.  Some CW interference just below on 6899 but easily removed with filter shaping on the SDR.  ID at 0214, but modulation muffled and difficult to understand.  Thanks to Beerus for the positive ID.  Finally got a clear ID at 0222 UTC.  Thanks for the show tonight!

Rolling Stones "When the Whip Comes Down", S6, then off with no ID.

358
Sounded like dogs howling for a few minutes and then into slower instrumental music, maybe swing / big-band, no ID yet, weaker S5 signal battling the summer static.  The interval signal (dogs or whatever) came through stronger than the music currently playing.

359
Hearing the blues on 6940u at 0600 UTC.  Weaker signal but making it through the constant static.  Music by Buddy Guy, nice mellow stuff.

Blue Ocean Radio IDs at 0612 and into live announcement.  Thanks for the shout-out and nice music tonight :-)  Nice signal peak during that ID.

Thanks to #pirateradio tip, I'm hearing this one very weak in west Michigan but I clearly hear Rod Stewart's "Maggie May" and then into Peter Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill".

Recording goes from worse to worser, but here it is.  No IDs heard:
