I suspect the NJ TIS is the one around 1710.009, as that is generally the strongest.

If the FCC license DB is correct, that is the only TIS station on 1710. So what are all these other carriers? 

The Hudson Co., NJ. TIS has more than one transmitter, maybe several?  I haven't looked recently, but I thought the FCC site had them all listed.  I'm surprised the other two on 1710 aren't listed though: the Flight 91 Memorial in PA and the Springfield Armory TIS in MA.

I get the impression W807 doesn't sign off.  I hear them fairly regularly pre-sunrise and throughout the night.

Have you been able to determine which of those lines represent the Hudson Co., NJ TIS station(s)?

Benway was heard well on 1710 too back then, if I remember correctly.  I think he received reports from across the US and into northwestern Canada.

W807 seem fairly regular at night, often just a carrier detectable but sometimes audio under the right conditions.

I did a quick plot of the oldies carrier from last night's SDR recording that captured both sign-on and sign-off times.  This spans about two hours and indicates only +1 Hz drift over that period of time.  Not bad compared to W807 and some of the other UNIDs shown here!

I haven't looked at carrier stability over a long period of time, but I did note that it's dead centered right on 1710.000, which impressed me.  For reference, if you're looking to fine tune your setup, W807's carrier (Chicago) is at 1710.079, and should stand out.  Might be a good reference to shoot for.

I have to believe that most of the allure of setting up shop on 1710 is attracting a different crowd of listeners, in addition to "all three of us".  1710 is relatively open and clear here, and I suspect it is in many parts of the country.  The PA/MA/NJ TIS stations on 1710 are only heard in the Midwest using serious equipment and never on the car radio or portable AM radio.  With enough signal on 1710, I think it could really "get out" during the winter months.  Driving home from a soccer game last night, I dialed up to 1710 and found this one playing oldies again.  No specialized DX equipment needed.  Of course, how many people these days are tuning around the AM dial in their car looking for different or new content?  Probably not many.  Instead of three, maybe an op can expect to double that number to six   I don't know, but it's always a rush catching a pirate on MW, especially on the car radio while driving down the highway!

Have a very weak carrier on 1710, but nothing around 1710.4 - 0102Z.

Tones went off at 0030, but carrier was still present.  Carrier finally off at 0105 UTC, but now back with music at 0121 UTC!  I'll start a new thread.

I checked a few remote receivers and also found it coming in on BDM's remote Perseus in Detroit, but a bit weaker there.  No other receivers I checked had a copy on it.

A continuous 400 Hz test tone noted right now on 1710, exhibiting fading at the same rate as the carrier but up to S5 at times.  No doubt from the same source as my previous two logs.



0142 UTC: Still there and much stronger now at a near solid S7
