Not sure what the heck this is. Announcer keeps calling it Vietnam Radio and says "yowser" all the time. Someone else keeps saying "Canada Sucks" and attempts to sing the Canadian National Anthem. They also play music, but I can't make out what it is. Been going on for a good 40 minutes or so now.

(Note, he kept referring to it as 3843, and my Grundig might be off a hair, so try that too).
More info: Calls himself Captain Dave, and gives a call sign of KR4tHY (which comes up 'passive' on QRZ.com)

FM Free Radio / Re: Question on pirate radio
« on: July 28, 2016, 1703 UTC »
Thanks for your reply. I know it's not as common as it used to be, would just like to find one sometime ... as well as an FM pirate. I've only pulled in SW pirates so far, but that's still fun too.

FM Free Radio / Question on pirate radio
« on: July 28, 2016, 1603 UTC »
I know this is probably the wrong forum, but I couldn't find one to match it, so I apologize.
I'm interested in pirate radio found on MW. Are there any stations around anymore ... maybe on 1710 or on the low end?
I did see a forum for MW loggings, but that seemed to be for licensed stations, so that's why I posted here.
Any info would be appreciated ... fascinated by finding pirate stations, whatever band they're on. Thanks.

Currently it's 1208 UTC .. 9330 AM coming in loud and clear. Heard number of songs, recorded "Cheeseburger With Parasites" parody song about 15 minutes ago.

When shortwave pirates are on, they are usually logged to the Loggings -> Shortwave Pirate section within minutes. Our IRC channel is always active as well and if you hang out there you'll find out when pirates are on virtually instantly.

Thanks I tried to go to the IRC chat section, but I can't get into any of the rooms. I downloaded the JAVA (which it told me to do), but it's denying "privileges" ...

I click on yes to "accept the risk" and run the application. Then I get "error" see details:

Missing required Permissions manifest attribute in main jar:
http://www.starchat.net/chat/jirc_nss.zip

I think this has more to do with Java? than you guys. But have no idea how to fix the problem ... any ideas?

Thanks, that's really good info. I will be trying to find some more as well as on shortwave. Become a recent obsession of mine :)

General Radio Discussion / Question from a new guy (pirates on AM, FM)
« on: February 09, 2014, 1623 UTC »
Hello, just getting into pirate radio so please forgive me if there's an obvious answer to this. I just picked up my first pirate broadcast last night on 6.925 and it was a lot easier than I thought (portable shortwave, wire antenna). Came in loud and clear.

What I'm wondering is how common are pirate broadcasts on the MW band (and for that matter, FM), how hard is it to find them? Would love to find some on AM and FM. I don't have any fancy antennas or anything, but I do have a Sangean PR-D5 which is an excellent AM Dxer. Thanks for any info/tips ...
