HF Beacons / Re: Currently Active Beacons Chat

Should we pencil in the 4097.2 Dasher (possibly the former Inyo Whooper) and  the new 4095.7 Desert Whooper beacons into the master list?

Guesses on my part for both of them as of early January 2021.

4097.2x has been active since at least early November with no real changes noted since then, so it appears to be here to stay.  I don't think that is related to the old Inyo Whooper though, it does appear to be related to 7997.2 kHz.  The two dashers appear in sync.  Both of them have some interesting propagation to me on my local receivers, at times they boom in, but most of the time they are not detectable.  Typically when I can hear one I cannot hear the other, but I suspect that is propagation, as occasionally I do hear them both at the same time.

The Desert Whooper also appears to be hanging in there.  But since it is still changing a little I suspect we are not seeing it  in its final version / location yet.

My vote would be that both need to be on the list.

T!

Hello!

They were both added to the list on Dec. 18th   8)

I just updated both listings. I like your note about 4097.2 and 7997.2 being in sync so I added that in as well as added 7997.2 to the list

Poor Windy is sending H.

It needs a vaccine injection of battery acid   ::)

Dasher doing fine here this afternoon and it appears a new ditter is being heard as well right next to the dasher.

7999.140 ditter
7999.212 dasher

those are the freq's that I measure them to.

Very cool!!

A strong signal tonight with little fading. The format changed/evolved a little. In the past it sent "DATA DATA" before sending the telemetry. Now it gives 5 slow (1/3 rate?) "whoops, pauses and then starts off with the BAT, then TMP and last of all it sends the PV numbers.

Windy's morse has really slowed down.

I'm not sure how this happens without either modifying the code or changing the clock speed   the processor is running. Neither seems likely if / as it's unattended.

Hmmmmmmmmm....

Rather than changing the software the Maker Of Windy should be changing the battery!   ;D

I ttoo thought it had slowed down but felt I was just mis-remembering. I was going to go listen to one of Token's fine Youtube videos and compare WPMs

PV....PhotoVoltaic?

Hours of sun, or....

Hmmmmm....

"PV" as referring to photovoltaic works for me.  8)  Hours of sun is interesting but how would it be used as a telemetered metric? The calculated hours of daylight numbers are available in lots of websites. If there was partial sun available (light clouds?) how could we communicate that via CW and then use the information to ascertain the beacon's health?

Offgrid systems are all about AmpHours (AH) into the batteries and AmpHours out.  Measuring PV current across the hours of daylight can give a sense of AH if you know the solar panel is averaging 18 volts into the charge controller. If the beacon's current consumption has been measured in the build phase that would provide a baseline for when it has been deployed. I don't know how monitor and log AH with a microcontroller in a beacon and then transmitting it via CW :-\ Interesting problem though. Look at Windy with it's minimalist telemetry crying out for help but the owner has not driven out there and installed a new battery. :o

Couldn't check DW on the Kiwi southeast array; someone's has had it tied up for a while. I try to get in, listen and get out to free it up for the next listener. Anyhow the omni is receiving DW pretty well at S3

Interesting. I am hearing it on the KFS SDR now, sending the letter "S" every 65 seconds.

Are you posting about Windy on 4102.85 or are you saying that the dasher format beacon on 4094 is now sending CW??

S3 to  S5 signal, rapidly varying on the SDR

Been watching the "TMP" go from 39 up to 51 and the "PV" number go from 0.0 to 0.1 just now. "BAT" is at 12.6

The Desert Whooper is weak but readable on the SE SDR

Has anyone caught much traffic in the ITU channelized HF spectrum between 4.063 and 4.438? I trolled through the Utility posts and did not immediately spot any loggings. Thanks!
