SDR - Software Defined Radio / Re: RX888 go on!
« on: October 12, 2020, 1942 UTC »
In a relatively cheap and basically homebrew unit the quality of work can vary a lot. However, RX888 seems to have a typical issue.

A Japanese blogger and Norwegian DXer have both complained that occasionally the noise level goes disastrously high. Then it is unexplicably over. I noticed the same issue, and it was easy to locate it to SMA antenna plug. When I opened the device I saw that the center pin of HF input was practically unsoldered. There was also something to say about two other pins.

I soldered the HF input again. After that there has been no problems.

Soon there will be a real field test and comparison with beverage antennas.

Kris, are you SURE you're not a computer scientist ?!  :D :)

He is. I looked a lot of time that elusive extio.dll in IK1XPV files and I never found it anywhere.

I gave up and smuggled to my use a Chinese cracked HDSDR instead.  :P

Not sure when the slow boat from China will arrive

Mine was resting in Shenzhen for one full month before it began moving anywhere.

Since yesterday I have been an owner of RX-888. How proud, remains to be seen. Next comes, perhaps sooner than later, a real test and comparison with Perseus using 500-800 metres long beverages.

I wouldn't be so shocked about LTC2208. For example Digikey gives retail price of 100 USD or less.

I can imagine a Chinese factory selling these straight from the line to another Chinese factory for half a price or less. You can construct a 200 USD SDR with that and make a little profit.

Personally I am curious about who is actually making these. We have now several SDR receivers designed and manufactured by hams: Belka, Malakhit. And this Chinese copy of Italian BBRF103.

Memorial transmission for recently died Finnish comedian Jope Ruonansuu with Tractor Wheel song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqfhJrSwUh8

There are many things going on in this song, and most go over the head if you are not a Finn.
Unnecessary information:
- Through the song Jope imitates Enska Itkonen, a driving school instructor who used to host a traffic advisory programme on TV in 1970s.
- Song is parody of popular tune that originally told about how a guy picks up girls because he has a cool motorbike.
- In Jope version singer is picking up old ladies while steering a tractor wheel.
- We also learn that he calls tractor a "Massikka" that means the tractor is a Massey-Ferguson.
- Pedal to the metal.
