An Invisible World
A new app called Architecture of Radio uses augmented reality to enable smartphones and tablets to view invisible wavefronts emitted by wireless routers, cell towers, and even passing satellites.
The data is compiled from several public databases, and only represents estimates based on distance and not actual measurements. While this means that the apps doesn’t exactly turn iPhones into a precise tool for measuring and analyzing electromagnetic radiation, it remains an elucidating and educational experience.

The app is part of an exhibition at the Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany by Dutch designer Richard Vijgen.
On his website, Vijgen says that the app is reversal of the daily digital experience by “hiding the visible while revealing the invisible technological landscape we interact with through our devices.”
