This may be of help to everyone?

"For me, it has always been fun trying to tie down if a station heard is really a Sound of Hope reception or just the CNR-1 program jamming.
Here are a few suggestions, based on my years of observations:

1) One positive way is to listen at the top-of-the-hour. CNR-1 programming always has time pips, while SOH never has any.

2) Find a known CNR-1 frequency, that is to say a non-jamming frequency (I use 6125 kHz.), then check to find if it is // to
the station in question.

3) SOH is a religious station, so has a more refined format. At ToH usually has news and then a lot of monologues. Rather
rare to hear music. While the CNR-1 format is fairly contemporary; many short segments; often with music; in general has
a much more upbeat format than SOH.

4) After many years of listening to SOH, I find their audio slightly muffled; not a lot, just enough to be noticeable, especially
when compared to the crisp audio of CNR-1.

5) It is not uncommon for SOH to be slightly off-frequency; while CNR-1 is on the exact frequency (xx.00).

6) Finally, if the station in question has fair to good reception, it almost certainly is CNR-1 jamming. SOH stations use rather
low power, hence fair-good reception would be extremely rare.

7) If you are fortunate enough to actually hear SOH, their top-of-the-hour ID is "Xiwang zhi sheng guoji guangbo diantai"
(Sound of Hope international broadcast station), given twice (once by OM and once by YL), then into the news."

KOREA SOUTH. 3985 // 5995 // 6350, Echo of Hope - VOH, 0900 UT, Oct 22 (Sunday). No longer with their signature
foghorn, but instead a new ID with "V-O-H"; believe it was back in 2018 that they last used "V-O-H" in their ID; today
followed with the "Oneul-ui sosig" segment (Today's news); good signal on 6350 and not jammed. The new ID also
noted at 0800. My audio of ID and news - https://app.box.com/s/mc0fq5vzshiyaqfrqms1kmsyfbfnhhzh .

For several years I had often enjoyed listening to Echo of Hope - VOH's weekday audio feed from a TV program called
"Wang cho bo yeong-eo" (translated into English - Beginner's English), which was produced by EBS English (Educational
Broadcasting System) and then on the weekend with the English language lesson of the reading of "Harry Potter and the
Sorcerer's Stone," both heard about 0725-0755 UT and repeated again four hours later. But now after several months of
monitoring, have found them no longer aired and with no English during that time period. They are missed!

Voice of Freedom, 6045, noted Oct 22 with the N. Korea super noise jamming not starting till after VOF signed on; *0753 UT,
heard with light NK pulsating noise jamming; intro music and distinctive gong rung three times; Voice of Freedom ID; Republic
of Korea choral National Anthem; super jamming started about 0756.

North American Shortwave Pirate / 6200 kHz. testing again
« on: October 16, 2023, 2053 UTC »
6200 AM - For a long time I had not been hearing any Hikari FM (pirate) signal and assumed he was having transmitter
problems. Then on both Oct 15 and 16, I heard an open carrier with good signal strength (0450+ UT). Sent an email to
the operator of Hikari FM, inquiring if I was correct in assuming he was testing again. Here is his reply, with the good
news that he plans on returning to the air before too long with actual audio.

"Yes, I am having problems with my amplitude modulator. I need an audio amplifier to modulate it. The previous
modulator got very hot and it was very inefficient which led to its failure.
Right now the setup is a modulation transformer and I am building a class E audio amplifier. This setup allowed me
to step up the power a little. The carrier is on because I will be doing some testing and pretty soon will be back on air
with music. This is if all goes by plan.
There is a lot of new music that will be coming and another reformatting with now separate time for electronic music
and another time for Jpop. Thank you very much for your support! Best regards."

KOREA SOUTH. Voice of Freedom, on Oct 12, first day back again on alternate frequency of 6045; ex: 5920 today heard with
North Korean super noise jamming and also rapid pulsating jamming; will probably take NK a day or two to move up to this
frequency, which was clear today; VOF heard today with an open carrier as early as 0705 UT, long before their sign on (*0753).

0900 UT: A single tone; "Jayu-e solibangsong-eseo ohu 6 (yeoseos) sileul allyeodeulibnida" (In English - Voice of Freedom
has announced 6pm); enjoyable singing station jingle - "jinsil-e soli, huimang-e soli, jayu-e soli bangsong!" (Voice of Truth,
Voice of Hope, Voice of Freedom broadcast); then the "Bodo gwangjang" (News Plaza) segment. My audio -

VANUATU. Radio Vanuatu with a new frequency of 9960; thanks to Glenn and Chris Mackerell for the timely alert
in WORiog; drove to the beach in time to catch 0656-0658* UT, on Oct 10. Fairly readable with promo for BBC on
104 FM in Port Vila, Visa debit card (both spots in English), etc.; about ten seconds to change frequency to 3945
(*0658) and into the news till 0718. My 9960 audio - https://app.box.com/s/qs3969bwxrdtio3mo222zkuoh2jpoh7x .

Hi Glenn - Yes, the pirate station on 6200 AM has indeed recently changed the programming to an all English
and Japanese format. Am no longer hearing any Russian, so it would seem Radio Channel Eastern Star/Radio
Vostochnaya Zvezda is no longer active. Heard now with many of the same spots being frequently repeated;
some in English and others in Japanese, as well as songs in Japanese.

The new, regularly heard spot - "with today's story" about McDonald's -
https://app.box.com/s/1s93vpkh7mdd6zmc5rgojinoluhscr77 .

Frequently now with the new ID: "You are listening to Hikair FM, the shortwave radio pirate station . . .
broadcasting from Mexico. Light FM, shining a light on . . . broadcasting worldwide in English and Japanese.
Hikair FM broadcast. Thank you for listening."

Shortwave Broadcast / Solomon Islands - SIBC schedule?
« on: August 04, 2023, 1531 UTC »
SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, SIBC, on Aug 4, yet another day with greatly extended broadcast; since SI Independence Day
(July 7), seems to me this is now routinely heard well past their former 1200* closing; today tuned in at 1236, till still on the
air past 1405+ UT; non-stop songs (island pop songs, American C&W, etc.); started out poor, but improved to almost fair. My
local sunrise was at 1316 UT. Enjoyable listening here even with summertime QRN (static)!

Clandestine Stations / Korea - Shiokaze and Voice of Freedom
« on: August 03, 2023, 1325 UTC »
KOREA NORTH[non]. 5920, Shiokaze/Sea Breeze/JSR, 1335 UT, Aug 2 (Wednesday); yes, another Wed. in English; very
poor reception due to N. Korea super jamming; // 6090 (good). What I find interesting is that recently when Shiokaze moved
here, at that time VOF was also on 5920, but they quickly moved up to their alternate frequency of 6045; for three days now
(July 31/Aug 1-2), VOF has been free of any jamming, so the super jamming has been especially slow following VOF. Aug 3,
super jamming finally moved from 5920 up to 6045.

KOREA SOUTH. 6045, Voice of Freedom, Aug 2. My audio of 1338-1340 UT, end of the “Ulisoli hanmadang“ (Our sound festival)
program with indigenous music and 1340-1346, start of the "Sigan-yeohaeng, yeogsa tamheomdae" (Time travel, history
exploration party) program, presenting a drama - https://app.box.com/s/trttoofgjzqb6quural6dllcs7aff2g6 ; fairly good reception.
The next day (Aug 3), totally covered by super jamming and pulsating noise jamming from N. Korea, so there were only three
days here with VOF with good reception; ex: 5920.

26
NORTH AMERICA. 6200 AM, Russian ethnic pirate Radio Channel Eastern Star/Radio Vostochnaya Zvezda,
0846-0935 UT, Aug 3; clear boost in power; mostly Russian ballads, with announcers in Russian and English
("Next song is . . . Thank you"; I check here regularly and had not detected any signal recently. Nice to have
stronger signal, but unfortunately today I also noticed extremely strong summertime QRN (static). In fact the
worst I have heard all this year, but the signal was cutting through the static fairly well, per my brief audio at
https://app.box.com/s/hha6wy91yxbhkoj22jserzdw2xqdpb08 .

Shortwave Broadcast / French President visits Vanuatu
« on: July 27, 2023, 1110 UTC »

VANUATU. 7260, Radio Vanuatu, 0545-0733 UT, July 27. Tuned-in to hear them fairly early with very poor signal that
gradually improved up to fair reception. Highlights:

0600-0603: Brief news bulletin.
0635: Frequently heard PSA in Bislama for "mental health." At 0630, no "service messages" program today!
0651: Local time ("nine minutes to six"); long series of promos, PSAs, commercial announcements; one spot was
in French (rare). My audio - https://app.box.com/s/6pdd2iz8ovfov2oi9q3pkob1dzxde7gp .
0700-0716: News/sports/weather mostly in Bislama; President of France is visiting Vanuatu and meeting with the
Prime Minister; several sound bites in English about what the French President said today.
0733: Sports program talking about the sports events for "National Day 2023."

28
KOREA SOUTH. 5920, Voice of Freedom, on July 6, second day on this alternate frequency and still free of jamming!

1130-1200 UT "Aneun geos-i him-ida" (Knowing is power).
Theme music by the Lee Hanjin Band - "Good Time" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bB0FHb4Wo_w .
Today's program audio - https://app.box.com/s/1qupuptd7y8w3eoidk1gutuit6584pdi .

1200-1210 UT single tone; then "Jayu-e solibangsong-eseo bam 9 (ahob) sileul allyeodeulibnida"
(In English - Voice of Freedom has announced 9pm); nice singing station jingle - "jinsil-e soli, huimang-e soli,
jayu-e soli bangsong!" (Voice of Truth, Voice of Hope, Voice of Freedom broadcast); then the "Bodo gwangjang"
(News Plaza) segment. My audio today https://app.box.com/s/p4ahxjcj3vmkufemmpj13dwkn9fwrgyi .

1215-1230 UT "Ingwon baloalgi" (Getting to know human rights). Thanks very much to Amano (Japan) for IDing
this program. My audio of radio drama and music at https://app.box.com/s/u5dkm9a0tqx1pxy3tf2eth9f72z12l5m .

1230-1300 UT "Haengboghan Daehanmingug" (Happy Republic of Korea).
My audio at https://app.box.com/s/0b6v0tz4p624arr8pj8mfks41qrvifaw .

29
KOREA SOUTH. Voice of Freedom, on July 5, the first day back on the alternate frequency of 5920 kHz. (ex: 6045), with no N. Korean
jamming yet, but we can probably expect super jamming to be here tomorrow(?); 1359 UT; the closing ID for the "Sigan-yeohaeng, yeogsa
tamheomdae" (Time travel, history exploration party) program, which consisted of radio drama and pop songs; 1400, start of "Hanminjog
tong-illo milaelo" (Korean people, to unity, to the future) program, with some Korean songs. My local sunrise was at 1254 UT. My audio is
at https://app.box.com/s/u35tmqj95rilgx22r0j10d1ugn3tgbad .

June 18 - Heard definite improvement in the signal on 7400 AM, from 0730+ UT. Recently had not been able to hear
the 2.5 watt signal, but today occasionally above threshold level audio (better than normal propagation or slight power
increase?); at 0742, heard bits and pieces from the distinctive segment of Russian IS, IDs in English ("Radio Channel
Eastern Star"
) and Russian, plus political spot about the "Socialist revolution." Most of the time I heard just a stronger
than usual carrier, but some segments with positive music/singing. Suggest the best chance for reception is to catch
the Russian IS segment, as it is the most recognizable feature here. Is definitely a challenge!
