My February 13 (Monday) observations:

KOREA SOUTH. Echo of Hope - VOH, has NOT changed frequencies for a month now; heard at 1316 UT with an
anomaly of not as much jamming as usual; 5995 // 6250 // 6350 and 9100, were all fair-good with no jamming and
3985 // 4885 were poor with jamming. VOP, with the usual 3480 // 3910 // 3930 // 4450 // 4560 // 6520 // 6600 kHz.

Voice of Freedom, 6045, at 1325 UT, with “Ulisoli hanmadang“ (Our sound festival) program of indigenous music;
I rather enjoy this unique music and today heard it with an exceptionally strong signal. My six minute audio is posted
at https://app.box.com/s/h0cxh8nwe6ue33laaasatni5sfb6m9c4 . At 1600 the good VOF reception was killed by the
start of a strong signal from Furusato no kaze.

KOREA SOUTH. 5920, Voice of Freedom. Thanks very much to Amano (Japan) for his fantastic monitoring of VOF

QRM from N. Korea jamming and after the "Hamkke tteonaneun eum-ag-yeohaeng" (Let's go music together) program,
there was the new format with VOF broadcasting their 2023 program guide.

Now listening beachside in Pacific Grove, Calif., due to a portion of the oceanside road thru Asilomar State Beach, where
I normally listened, is now closed due to the flooding/damage done by the recent storms.

You were hearing CNR1 from 1255 to 1300 UT, which is used to jam the Sound of Hope (Taiwan) signal.
They normally stop for a brief time at the top-of-the-hour, apparently to check if the station they are
jamming is still there and then they start up jamming again. The time pips at 1300 were definitely from
CNR1, which ALWAYS has pips at ToH, while SOH NEVER has time pips at ToH. The "weak unreadable"
station you heard after CNR1 went off the air, must in fact have been SOH.

SOH has a top-of-the-hour ID of "Xiwang zhi sheng guoji guangbo diantai" (Sound of Hope international
broadcast station), given twice (once by OM and once by YL). My audio of a typical ToH SOH ID format is
posted at https://app.box.com/s/s90u44t1lmxf8t2cv9csjacxbdj4v4z3 , with the ID at 2:30 on the audio clip
and note NO TIME PIPS.

Hope this helps.

133
Sign off is at 1500* UT. Transmitter turned off. Please give a listen before 1500, on 7110 kHz. Good Luck!

https://www.onallbands.com/propagation-paths-the-long-and-short-of-it%EF%BB%BF/

"Another special path goes the “wrong way around.” Called long path (for some reason), signals travel in the opposite direction
to the direct short path bearing
. It may take more hops, but if the short path isn’t open to a distant station, remember to check
long path bearings. Long path contacts are often possible when the path is mostly in daylight (on the high bands) or in darkness
(on the low bands). Sometimes the long path and short path are open at the same time, creating an echo-like effect. At these
times, the strongest path can quickly flip back and forth between short and long path. You might even hear a signal from the
antipode to your location coming in from several paths since all paths are both short and long to the antipode!"

135
ETHIOPIA. 7110, Radio Ethiopia (Home Service), 1439-1500* UT. Some HOA music; segment with phone
conversations; very brief ID at sign-off (not the usual IS/gong/ID that I had heard in the past). Has been a
long time since I last checked on this and I'm very pleased to find this with nice long path reception, as
well as grayline reception; my local sunrise was at 1509 UT, with Addis Ababa sunset at 1506 UT. My
three minute audio is at bit.ly/3UJcXNX .
