i am not sure if the operator of Wolverine reads these message board threads but i am sure that the operator is well aware of the coverage he is getting.
so far, i have heard Wolverine on just about every remote radio receiver in the USA, even the ones using discone antennas and ones not set up for HF reception.
i can also hear Wolverine on many foreign remote radio receivers as far as into Russia.
out of curiosity, i decided to check on my dirt cheap AM only radio with stock antenna and sure enough, i can hear SSB modulation.

S5-6, been listening for a bit, sounds like its Euro.
2235 - Peter Gabriel - Solsbury Hill
2339 - heard YL speak, couldnt understand it since it sounded German.
also another one popping up at 6985 AM, weaker than 6980 AM.

its a malfunctioning stanag modem.
prior to multiple side tones idling, it was a single tone.

Sounds about right flexoman61,

I'd be interested to know how many export radios/radios with "extra channels" are in operation in the USA compared to legal 40 channel radios.

i can tell you that there was much more of these radios purchased and in use back in the late 80's to late 90's due to the internet being prohibitively expensive and nearly non-existent at that time.
affordable high speed broadband internet changed everything.

Philip Stair will jump on this opportunity as soon as its available.
hes been looking for a station on the west coast to preach his spoken doomsday words.

The RF Workbench / Re: Modulated 5W NS40
« on: September 06, 2016, 1720 UTC »
everyone has their own opinion on what is easy to design and build, the question comes down to reliability, stability and proper operation.
anyone can weld a tube frame with two wheels, sprocket, seat and a chain and call it a bicycle, its how well you build and want that bicycle to operate and the type of operator that matters the most.
im not knocking anyones design for any circuit, ive seen some pretty good build kits out there and ive seen some that would explode like a fire cracker if driven just a tad above its design limits, everything here is strictly my opinion from a professional point of view, pros see things differently than a novice would.

i think it would be easier (at least for me) to build a double balanced AM RF mixer circuit using this integrated circuit > SN16913.
this IC can be used to modulate or demodulate RF and is very commonly used in AM/SSB transceiver gear.
this PDF easily explains the dynamics, functions and operation of RF mixing and modulation > http://www.qsl.net/va3iul/RF%20Mixers/RF_Mixers.pdf

S5-7, sounds like German numbers being read.
0225 - heard what sounded like keyboard typing in the background.
0230 - stronger signal now, not sure what this, sounds like the same words repeated over and over, perhaps "testing radio" and "hello" in a different language ?

here is an idea of what it can be used for and what can be controlled but as Chris said, the interface does not pass audio.

Equipment / Re: need help wiring ACC connection from radio to amp
« on: August 28, 2016, 0247 UTC »
EliteData - You hit the nail on the head!  I was getting ready to break out the soldering iron when I saw your post.  I just decided to tie the two ends together and BINGO.  I have no need for receive, so this allows me to make the ON/OFF switch my amp control.  This is perfect solution!
just keep all the gear (including the power supply) running cool with low SWR (no more than 2:1) and everything will work great.

if i may ask, what brand/model the amp is ?
you may be better off just tying the red/black wires together and using the amp STBY/OPR switch or the power switch when you want to use it assuming its not being used for two way communications, depending on what type of amp it is and whether its solid state or valves.
edit:
its probably this amp ?
https://www.amazon.com/Amplifier-FT-817-IC-703-Enhancing-Transmission/dp/B00SMH5P8U
if so, you could get away with tying the small red/black wires together and just use the on/off switch to activate it, provided you memorized the band switch dial or physically marked it with a small black marker so you can change bands with the power switch off.
in any case, you will probably be able to do about 20-25w max on AM @ 13.8vdc, anything higher may introduce carrier saturation and envelope distortion on AM.
for cooling, i suggest a 12vdc computer case cooling fan placed on the top of it with the air flow going towards the heat sink fins.
tip: its getting too hot if a crayon starts melting within 5 seconds (easiest method).
good luck !

Hmmmmm.  I may have to take someone up on their tape-to-digital transferring capabilities.  I've got many, many cassettes I'd love to keep the contents of, and zilch when it comes to ability to shift them to a newer format.  They're nearly all recorded on four sides, not just two, if that'd cause anyone a problem.  I had a habit of recording radio programming on the usual one and two, then using sides three and four for live, unscripted recordings of teenage adventures a la summer camp and similar.  Heh.  Sometimes, sides one and two would bleed through to three and four, which was flipping annoying in the extreme.  Still is.  I wonder if there's a way to digitally clean that up.

i would suggest the transfer of any analog medium take place on very high quality professional grade playback equipment and that the transfer to the digital medium take place "as is" in plain vanilla format but at the highest lossless bitrate possible (FLAC is an excellent choice), you want to preserve everything.
this plain vanilla format will be your digital master that you can make digital working copies from.
you can then use your digital working copy to make edits, apply any noise reduction or sound enhancements as necessary.
the problem is locating high quality professional grade analog playback equipment at a reasonable price.
you dont want to use a $100 cassette deck to make your digital master from and it doesnt make sense to spend hundreds of dollars on equipment to preserve a few hours of media content.
there is a market out there for digital transfer, just finding the one that does it at a professional grade level is difficult since most use cheap grade analog equipment for playback.
