Shortwave Broadcast / Re: [UNID] 6915 USB 0200 UTC 27 Feb 2016
« on: February 27, 2016, 0534 UTC »
Yeah, you're almost certainly right. I did some google searches on the man and his minions and I no longer find him/them in any way amusing. Live and learn, and thanks for the tip EData. If Chris is reading this, feel free to delete this thread if you want, my mistake! This crap doesn't deserve to be called pirate, nor even Pesky? Why does the FCC feel this "religious" material has the right to be all over the place for thirty odd years now, and why now on 6915? I have my theories, the whole topic is beyond depressing. The Overcomer's wiki page is pretty sanitized compared to a lot of other stuff on the web. I'll check out the other thread again , thanks. I agree with you, "psycho binge" is the apt expression. I can't believe there are adults who pay to put this stuff all over the airwaves. Anyways, the signal was TERRIBLE, just awful. Worse than any pirate ever, including "Hello Radio" guys from the 80's. Chris or any mod, feel free to delete or move this thread, this station and logging in no way deserve to be here.
i couldnt have said this better than you   ;D
it has to do with money, if one has the cash to burn, a commercial shortwave radio station will do whatever you want for the right amount of cash.
this guy occupies every US shortwave station, he is inescapable.
however, i do find it rather amusing that someone would "key over" WRMI with their own signal in an attempt to trash it or mock it or whatever may be the case.
the fact that WRMI allegedly operates at 100KW on professional directional antennas aimed at 285 (northwest US) but cannot even be decently heard on any remote online receiver in the signal path is testament that "psycho stair" has absolutely no idea what he is doing and probably does not care either, nevertheless, WRMI could care less too since they are getting paid.
i have yet to actually hear this signal clear enough to be intelligible longer than 2 seconds on any receiver in the US, day or night.
forget about foreign receivers, i dont hear WRMI at all.
to sum up fact, WBCQ on 7.490Khz at 50KW can be heard a thousand times better than WRMI.
i have to actually wonder if WRMI is really operating at 100KW or even 50KW, maybe they are operating a few thousand watts instead, heck, save money on electric, make a bigger profit, "psycho stair" wont know the difference anyway - its not like the FCC can figure out (besides a visit) that the station is operating much less than the minimum of 50KW anyway, whos gonna complain about it ?
the one very good thing is that 6915Khz, when strong enough, can be used to calibrate your SDR to the exact frequency by "zero beating" (DSB & frequency correction/calibration) assuming they are using a professional agile frequency exciter.

Equipment / Re: Yaesu FT-1000D Receiver failure...
« on: February 27, 2016, 0504 UTC »
im not sure, but dont the older yaesu transceivers have a small RF "lamp" that is supposed to protect the receiver front end from excessive RF damage ?
its like a small incandescent lamp that will actually light up in the presence of strong RF coming into the radio.
my FT-757GXII has one and it "burnt out" one time with the radio off and caused the exact same problem you are describing.
that could be case with yours, perhaps someone with a very high powered mobile CB radio passed by you in close proximity ?
cant really think of anything else powerful enough to burn out the lamp other than possible voltage on the RF line, excessive static build up or a lightening strike in very close proximity.
a mobile CB radio directly in front of your home would have to operate at 1KW to burn the "lamp" out.
i couldnt locate through google a legit copy of the service manual for this model.
all of the copies i found through google that are "downloadable" are links to malware instead.

unless its someone transmitting over WRMI on 6915 Khz (happened before), its just Ralph Stair on his "psycho" binges as usual.

Utility / Re: 6.739 USB numbers and letters ? "semi-pro" ?
« on: February 26, 2016, 2325 UTC »
Sounds like a US Military EAM.
very possible since its in the aeronautical band
here is some more interesting information regarding this topic with the attached file below (EAMs.pdf) for anyone else who comes across this topic and is curious.

6.739 USB
sound sample included > http://www56.zippyshare.com/v/RVJgbla2/file.html

FM Free Radio / Re: faint signal @ 87.740mhz in NY
« on: February 26, 2016, 2226 UTC »
Doesn't NYC have a channel 6? I could've swore they did and at one time was called Pulse 87.7
i remember back in 2003 to 2006 working in bayside, queens, NY, i would hear what sounded like russian/chinese content and music at 87.7
there was color bars and the same music playing on TV channel 6 but the audio deviation was greater than 50Khz so the sound on the TV was distorted but not on the radio.
not sure if this is the same thing i am hearing now.

82
can hear bass thumping but at noise level with fades up to S5
edit: typo error, meant 6.925, not 6.250
2147z - drifted up to 6.925.130
2154z - unid music and now at 6.925.140, some light LSB "peskie" interference
2200z - drifted to 6.925.149

General Radio Discussion / Re: Old Time Radio 6770 ?
« on: February 26, 2016, 1919 UTC »
Somebody reported hearing them yesterday, on Facebook...

There's an entire logging thread from yesterday here on the HFU: http://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,26587.0.html

I am not hearing them today, however, not even a carrier.
i was seeing a noticeable carrier on the waterfall between 1300-1400z today but not sure when it went off.

these "efforts" to "combat" pirate radio seem to be concentrated on FM & AM broadcast bands for the most part.

Huh? / Re: Now I know why the Sky Loop is not working well today
« on: February 26, 2016, 1759 UTC »
was that from the storms we recently had ?
did it damage anything ?
my dipole (G5RV) got ripped down twice by fallen branches, once during the snowstorm and the second time with the storm just recently.
the copper wire snapped both times, had to wait for better temps and for the snow to melt to fix it the first time and the wind/rain to stop to fix it the second time.
tied the broken copper wire into a small knot together and applied solder to it and put it back up.

Other / Re: strange broadcast @ 6750 Khz 1457z 2/26/16
« on: February 26, 2016, 1556 UTC »
trying to ID and locate the actual source of this harmonic transmission, searching through the AM broadcast band for something that sounds like what im hearing (some talk show about the emmys and oscars) has proven fruitless.
i'll keep listening to this and maybe i might hear a station ID.

Other / Re: strange broadcast @ 6750 Khz 1457z 2/26/16

Sounds like a QSO, one side is clear, the other sounds distorted.  Now some digital mode. Military or MARS?
i think you might receive this transmission Chris if you park long enough on it since its very intermittent.
if you dont receive it, try W1NT remote on SDR console (its received there also)
to me, it sounds likes a harmonic being generated from a faulty connection at the antenna tower site because its very intermittent and when it happens, its seems to be cyclic like its a hard line cable moving around in the wind.
pretty strange if you ask me.

« on: February 26, 2016, 1515 UTC »
some sort of over modulated 5Khz bandwidth AM broadcast thats on/off intermittently with deep fades (NVIS)
confirmed its not my receiver as i am also receiving this on the SDR console W1NT remote receiver.
currently receiving this in the northeast coast of the USA.
could it possibly be a harmonic from an AM broadcast radio station thats having an antenna problem ?
recording > http://www35.zippyshare.com/v/9er91AT2/file.html (the buzzing in the recording is an old CRT TV in my home)

North American Shortwave Pirate / Re: 25.909.880 FM 2017z 2/25/16
« on: February 25, 2016, 2058 UTC »
whoever it was, was playing american rock music.
i checked the link http://youtu.be/qNUNBZedIf4 and it certainly did not sound anything like that at all (sound quality wise).
the deviation was below 5Khz and low and the audio spectrum was very narrow.
the youtube video depicts audio spectrum greater than what i heard though i cant see what the deviation bandwidth is on the video, im sure its greater than 5Khz.
next time, ill have "one button record" ready

« on: February 25, 2016, 2019 UTC »
S7 on peaks with long fades, averaging S5, deviation is low but appears within 5Khz
2017z - pure prairie league "let me love you tonight"
2023z - faded to just a discernible carrier now
2026z - carrier gone
i should have recorded this but by the time i got it setup to record, it was pretty much gone
after a search through the forums for "25910", it appears to have been logged on 2/13 as an STL but i would expect an STL to be on frequency and sound better than what i heard, this didnt sound like an STL.
