This is nice, but then you've to consider all the needs to operate such a device in a useful fashion such as mon, kb/mouse, os, power supply, etc etc. Might as well buy a cheap tablet and be done with it.

If the too big to fail corporations fail, perhaps someone locally will chip in and keep these stations from being bought up by China, Saudi Arabia, or whoever with zillions in cash and propaganda to spread. I pray npr goes the way of the bankrupt corps, Trump has mentioned efforts in that direction.

Surely you jest. NPR is only very slightly left of center, and provides very much needed balance to the airwaves dominated by this radio monopoly.

Some cable systems leak like a sieve, tune to 14317 usb and see if you have a carrier there 24/7. Also, some of the industrial hifer sigs will go off after business hours, others will remain on 24/7 if the place has multiple shifts. If they're there 24/7 you know it's local, and if it keeps regular business hours it's prolly local too.
