Amateur Radio / 14.313 MHz USB shenanigans, 13 MAR 2024, 1621 UTC
« on: March 13, 2024, 1623 UTC »
For many years I've heard hams behaving badly all over 80m and at 7.200 MHz LSB, but it's been ages since I heard anything on the notorious 20m bands gathering spot. At the moment (1623z) there's mostly one obnoxious sounding guy who may or may not be actively arguing, but at 1621 there were several including this particular ham who were all talking over each other and cursing.

Just found this Russian language broadcast scanning the bands. The signal is only about SIO 111 here, but confirmed it's the same signal when I tuned using the KPH kiwi SDR in California where it's SIO 444. ID copied at 1559 UTC as I was typing this.

1600 Tx is from the UAE. At 1600 it changed to NHK World.

Currently ringing in with no dropouts for the past several minutes into Denver. Using my Airspy with a MLA-30 active loop antenna, HDSDR and Dream software (v. 2.2.1).

via Santa Maria di Galeria, SIO 433 (big 20 kHz wide ute, centered right on 21660, causing QRM and hence the low I figure and lower O figure). It could possibly 555 without that, though there is some occasional mild QSB also.

21
About SIO 222 reception improving slightly as the 1400 progresses (writing this at 1448z). Mostly Arabic music with OM vocals, occasional OM DJ speaking between songs.

First time catch of this broadcast that's beamed toward Indonesia per their website schedule. About SIO 222 at best, but still better than the 1300 UTC broadcast on 15575 for North America (for now - I do know that one is hitting the east coast pretty well already, but the sun's just rising here at the end of that hour.)

Yesterday (29 FEB) I only was able to copy one broadcast, which repeated the number sets of the previous day (28 FEB). Here we have a progression of three days. Please see the Feb 2024 HM01 thread to see which files were sent with the first five number groups: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,125117.0.html

About SIO 222 at best with subcontinent music which at times cuts out while the carrier signal remains unchanged.
QRT at 0229 UTC.

0133 WTF Radio ID into "Good Times Bad Times" Led Zeppelin. Signal is pretty rough at my home QTH but booming into Sigma kiwi SDR at the MA/CT border. Thanks for the show!
0136 OM "Yes it's true, the mothership has landed" into "Communication Breakdown" Led Zep
0138 "Dazed and Confused" you know who
0145 "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" LZ
0151 OM "From the east coast of North America this is WTF Radio Worldwide" into...
0152 "Whole Lotta Love" LZ
0157 "Ramble On" LZ
0201 OM "OK, that band is called Led Zeppelin, playing tunes from a CD called 'Mothership'" into "Heartbreaker"
0205 OM talking about how Mothership comp came out in 2007
0206 "Immigrant Song" LZ
0208 OM briefly saying something about "moving the needle," into "Black Dog" LZ
0213 "When the Levee Breaks" LZ
0220 Sung station ID "What's the Frequency? It's WTF Radio!" OM saying facetiously "what's the name of this song?" into "Stairway to Heaven" LZ
0228 "The Song Remains the Same" LZ
0233 WTF Radio ID into "Over the Hills and Far Away" LZ (OM speaking over the end of it, how you think it's over when it's not)
0238 "D'yer Mak'er" LZ

Gotta go do other things now. Thanks for the show! Again it was excellent rx into New England but not so much where I actually reside.

Telediffusion de France in DRM mode on the 13 meter band via Issoudun (based on everything I've found online about this station), terrific signal with very few dropouts into Colorado this sunny Sunday morning. YL apparently interviewing OM as of 1443z.
1457 QRT without any sign off. It was in the middle of a piece of music that sounded Middle Eastern.

28
Copied on Khabarovsk kiwi SDR, since there's only a very slight trace carrier at my QTH. Noted H3E (full carrier but only USB modulation) signal on the waterfall here. About SIO 444 with QSB.

Should be on today via Issoudun tx on 15215 kHz, 1600-1700 UTC.

Found this strong DRM signal scanning the bands. It's not listed on EIBI but it is identified by the Dream (v. 2.2.1) DRM decoder. At least two OM speaking French in conversation.

EDIT 1826 update: I was out of the shack for about an hour but returned c. 1800z and it's still on and strong. However as of 1825 it's definitely starting to degrade a bit with brief, second-long dropouts every 6-10 seconds or so.
