I've been making minor improvements to the antenna recently, such as making the tripod more stable, remounting the variable capacitor, etc. I found a rubber covering from a banana plug to put on the capacitor where a knob goes (I never found a knob that really fit it). So, now that I'm able to tune without causing a short or ground or whatever makes the signal drop out from direct contact, I have discovered that the upper range is much higher than previously thought. I just logged Russian polytone station XPA2, which broadcast at 1500z today (9/16/16) on 16147 USB using the loop. And it came in much better than it did on the 48' wire, which at 14.4m is usually quite reasonable for higher band reception.

Up above I said I don't think this is a true DX antenna, but I'm reconsidering that conclusion.

0011 Really faint copy, significant static not helping.
0022 Moonlight Radio ID via CW

0127 hearing very very faint music on this frequency again, don't know if it's still Moonlight but the signal strength and quality is about the same as before.

At least Joe Flips was nice enough to leave out my favorite moment from the 2004 ALCS, A-rod knocking the ball out of the first baseman's hand in a futile attempt not to be called out. And the attendant irony, given that he was going to be traded from Texas to Boston before he ended up going to the Bronx.

Radio New Zealand Int'l is on 6170 at this time. Are you sure you're not hearing them? (It doesn't sound like their normal programming, to be sure.)

Radio New Zealand on 49 meters just before noon local time would be an amazing DX catch. And possibly get me arrested for violating several laws of physics

I don't think Brother Stair can abide an American SWBC station that isn't carrying his voice. He'd probably offer to record the time messages for WWV just to be on that transmitter as well.

Heard 6600 sometime between 1200 and 1215, jamming was stronger here than on the Echo of Hope frequencies.
