General Radio Discussion / KDKA Historical Plaque

While strolling around downtown Pittsburgh earlier this week, I stumbled across the KDKA plaque not even knowing one existed.  Now, if they could right the "pirate" ship and get the Buccos back on AM, all will be right in the world.

MW Loggings / WMMN 920 am 0130 UTC 12 June 2017 - Penguin Radio Network

While in Cleveland last night, I spun the dial to try tp pick up the Penguin Broadcasters for Game 6.  I picked them up on 920 am WMMN from Fairmont, West Virginia for the last period and a half.  Good reception - Two hundred miles away when they are night time reduced to 200 watts.  The final minute goal and replay request was an interesting listen as relayed by the Pittsburgh crew.

By a very weird coincidence from long ago made plans, I will be staying in downtown Pittsburgh tonight.  The place will probably be filthy in black and gold.  Shoot that puck, score that goal, and blow that fog horn.  Go Whale! (We dine on Penguins)

Good reception.....T/O 7000 with just its whip, out on the front porch with a coffee watching the birds in the photo gather breakfast.  Light out but sun has yet to rise above surrounding hills.

One of my favorite listens on the way home from work is WPPB's "Afternoon Ramble".  It's strong signal bounces across Long Island Sound well into the Nutmeg State.  The past couple of days, the signal has been shortwave-like....static, fades, perfectly clear, and then completely gone.  Today, "Ramble" host Brian Cosgrove apologized to the audience about the transmission, he explained that they were struck by lightning last Friday and equipment will need to be replaced.  I could not find a story about it on line but Connecticut had Tornado Warnings the same evening.

1700z I have the pre-match show (in Spanish) on all but 15390, won't be around for the match.
I was going to try to make one of the ICC matches this summer but the dates don't line up up for me.  I'm thinking about the US/Ghana friendly on July 1 in nearby East Hartford.  I'm been fortunate to hit some great matches in my life and the atmosphere outside/inside the stadium has equalled the play, remarkable events.

Shortwave Broadcast / REE Probable Broadcast June 3 1800 utc

I will not be near a radio so I pass this along to others.  I strongly suspect REE will do a live broadcast of the Champions League final (Superbowl of European football/soccer) today at 1800 or 1830z, kick off is 1845z.  The match fetes Italian champion Juventus versus Spanish champion Real Madrid (all the more reason for an REE broadcast) from Cardiff, Wales. The four frequencies used on Saturdays at this time are 15390/15520/17715/17855.   I have not heard if the BBC will broadcast, their chaotic schedule is here:

Juventus and Real Madrid will be part of an eight team tournament in July in the US which will feature an unusually strong field with eye-widening match ups including a Manchester Derby and an El Classico.  The teams and where they finished in their domestic league, all teams will be in the Champions League next season: Juventus (1), Roma (2), Spurs (2), City (3), United (6), PSG (2), Real (1), and Barca (2).
