North American Shortwave Pirate / UNID 6925 kHz USB 1925 14nov16 UTC
« on: November 14, 2016, 1942 UTC »
1925 - Sig is way down in the noise but occasionally rises up
enough to make out what sounds like maybe an
          old radio show recording.
1941 - Sounds like big band era mx

Thanks, whoever you are :)

PS - I have noted of late that the peskies have
discovered the USB mode. :(  Used to be
easier to filter them out from just looking at
      the waterfall...

North American Shortwave Pirate / UNID 6925 kHz AM 0200 08oct16 UTC
« on: October 08, 2016, 0213 UTC »
0211 - sounds like a comedy skit but sig is
too weak for me to recover much.
         Anyone else???
0218 - mx about "la-la-la-la-la" sig is peaking
occasionally. Sounds kinda like Big Band
          but maybe in Italian???
0222 - seems to be gone

Unkn mx, best(?) sound was in NFM mode, gone at 1333
Screen print image is too large to post here.
Anyone catch on SDR recording?

Chris,
Thanks. It took a bit of doing but take a look at:
http://imgur.com/a/ZdtLB
imgur is a new one on me but very useful. I will
have to remember that. Right now, the only
way I have to save a screen print is to paste it
into a Word document. I'm still using SpectraVue
mainly because I'm used to it but even its capture
files are too large to post.

Check out the comic strip "Frazz" for today,
18sep16. If that does not appear in your paper,
here's a link - you may have to set the date:

Enjoy :)

When I got home this afternoon, I found these 2
very noisy SSTV images:
1808 - I think I can just make out an image in MC110-N (???)
1823 - Definitely an image here in Scottie1

Anyone maybe get a usable image of these on an SDR recording?

I was parked on 6925 and just found this image from ~10 minutes
ago. Sorry BC, I wasn't around at the time so didn't hear your
transmission.

I was recently reading the post by Ct Yankee. "So, why did you start listening to the radio",
and it brought back memories what I consider my favorite radio related music:
BTW: Ct, the answer, for me, is the magic of radio and I think the first song
really expresses that magic feeling... Enjoy! :)

I was on the phone and had the rcvr parked on 6925 with the
audio turned down when I realized I was hearing CW. I fired up
fldigi in the CW mode - sorry, if I copy CW by ear, I need 200%
concentration! - and copied this, looks like same message sent 2 X:

Other / UNID carrier 6946.5 kHz 2250 24jul16 UTC
« on: July 25, 2016, 0115 UTC »
This is a really strong carrier that I first noticed ~2250
I expected someone to s/on at TOH but so far, nothing.
The carrier is consistently stronger that WRMI(?) on
6855 kHz. The carrier is ~S9 +10 on the R-70.
?????? I posted on here due to the frequency.

55
1725 - BARELY could hear some mx, maybe OM "testing"
          a few minutes earlier?
1728 - CW but it was way too weak for me to copy. Maybe
someone in a better QTH also heard or an SDR recording???
Not prime time for good propagation at this freq. :)
"Hello, hello, is there anybody out there?"

56
~0330 Started with "V"s then into 5 letter groups. I got into here
~2 minutes into it and punched Audacity and recorded the
          final ~6:30.

~0338 Assumed s/off w/"YYYYY 23233 23233 23233 UVB33 UVB33 UVB33 K"

CW sounded good @ ~18 wpm but the sig was weak w/some QSB and QRN
Guess someone was trying to be a Numbers station...

{Edit 1835  19jul16}
Chris,
Yeah, I had the same thought about the UVB33 after I later read
the posting, in General Discussions, about UVB-76. I didn't copy much
last night as I was doing laundry at the time it was on so I only
was able to be in the shack just before s/off. I did get most of it
on Audacity and plan to play that back and see if there's anything
else of interest...

General Radio Discussion / Huntsville, AL Hamfest

Any other HFU folks planning to attend the HSV Hamfest, 20 - 21aug16?

I usually leave the SDR on 6925 kHz if I'm not using it for anything else That was the case this afternoon as I was monitoring the
50, 144, and 432 mHz ham bands when I looked over at the monitor and saw this pattern. Since VHF was dead at the time, I
searched around a bit and I could see the signal(?) ~6200 - 7200 kHz. I could hear a buzz whenever it was in the detector passband
(AM or FM). The signal, or whatever, appears to be gone at this time - 2240. Rcvr is RFSpace SDR-IQ. Sorry, the video file is way too
large to post...
Thanks, Paul
