MW Loggings / Re: KCJJ1630, Iowa City.

What was suppose to be an early IN / OUT at work on a Sunday evening turned out to be the wait from hell. So, scanned the AM band in the truck. KCJJ 1630kHz was mainly the clear signal winner with tunage. Wow!!!! They don't voice track, but are live, to 9PM CST? Huh... Stations around here in WV usually all voice track it from 5PM, onward. So, neat to listen to, and gave me the heads-up on the big storm that's suppose to dump on Iowa City there this week, might dump later on us. Oh... And, CBS News at 10min before the TOHID? That's a lil' different. Nothin', on 1710kHz.      www.1630kcjj.com

hey Dood,

The KCJJ DJs talking about you and other reception reports this morning @ 1145Z.   8)
Seems like a big snowstorm headed their way, idk but maybe as a result they went to daytime power early...
huge signal in here on the car radio.

LW band seems dead to the north this morning, many of the usual Canadians very weak or missing.
OTOH, propagation is better to the south, 329  CH Charleston SC and 344  JA Jacksonville FL both
very strong.

Some more southern beacons:
340  GN     Lexington  KY  *
341  CQN   Chattanooga  TN
346  VU     Albemarle  NC  *
379  BRA   Asheville  NC
385  EMR   Augusta  GA
388  CDX   Somerset  KY
391  FIQ    Morganton  NC

* new for me

Weather / Re: Rain to snow possible in the northeast Christmas Eve/Day
« on: December 25, 2020, 1750 UTC »
The mild 50F+ mid-week temps were pushed out of here yesterday by a strong
Arctic blast which brought us a couple inches of snow overnight much to the
delight of the white Christmas fans.  The XYL and myself enjoyed it with our
cross-country skis.   :)

Using the Traveler III / AN-200 / lazy susan combo again tonight,
have been able to null WWL AM 870 New Orleans and pull in
Radio Reloj on the same freq loud and clear with the time ticks
plainly audible and the beep followed by RR in Morse every minute,
OM and YL in espanol.

Good idea.....think I'll pair it up with the Tecsun AN-200 this week and see what surfaces.
Thanks

Put the Traveler III and the AN-200 on a lazy susan this morning and between rotating the turntable and tuning the loop
was able to peak the signals from WSCR Chicago, KMOX St. Louis, and KCJJ Iowa City.  Some of it seemed to be skywave
and some groundwave but it did work...

good idea on the AN-200.

Don,

Good to hear you found your Traveler III.  :)

That is a hot little receiver for a pocket radio.
Been awhile since taking the back off but IIRC
it has only a small 2" or 3" loopstick… amazing
how well it performs on AM band.
If you can inductively couple to it a wire or loop,
it gets even better.

Weather / Re: bye bye warm weather
« on: December 11, 2020, 2235 UTC »
A couple of mild days for us here in Michigan.  The ice fog burned off with sunrise and the temp rose quickly with bright sunshine and topped out near 50F both days.
Nicer WX than some of the stuff we had back in early Autumn... we have had several of these unusually mild days over the past several weeks.

edit: mild again today but pouring rain, looks like no bicycle ride today

I've listened to that older dude in the evenings on 720WGN. He gets a lot of calls from the Upper Michigan Penninsula. He'll even talk about radio stuff, classic jocks, kick-ass receivers of the 50's and 60's, and even other stations.

Sounds interesting, what program are you referring?
