The absolute worst things are blow dryers. They spew RF far and wide.

The house circuit breaker load center is located in the shack a convenient arm reach from the operating position.  The XYL says her hair dryer sometimes suddenly fails for no apparent reason.

Nice one... 329 YEK,  that's almost 3500 miles from there to ON land !
The "Eskimo Point" beacon shows up here in Michigan once in a while and when it does it has a good signal...  all or nothing.

LW noise level this evening in suburban hell is -90dbm.  Even so, with the help of the MFJ 1026 it is possible to cancel out enough of the noise to hear voices just at the remaining noise level on 198.  Oddly enough, DIW is nowhere to be heard tonight after blasting in here yesterday.

Just a muddle of voices down in the noise on 198 last evening.  Sure would like to have your up north noise floor...  QRM in the evening is terrible here.  However, DIW was really pounding in  here last night and early this morning, loudest it has ever been.

Talking to myself, here, it seems.

Not really, been reading the posts but unfortunately the local QRM is so bad here in the early evening so as to make any kind of LW reception almost impossible.
Will try again this evening.
Tnx for the reports.

Got the Satellit 750 here.  Have read about problems with the BFO drift with this radio but have never had any of the problems that you describe.  However, have always run mine on 4 "D" cells.  Your Tecsun has a built-in supply that runs off of 220v mains.  You may want to try running on pure DC ("D" cells) instead and see what happens.

I wish the commission would allow US broadcasters to do what the Canadians do; relay some of their programming on SW for domestic purposes.  1-5 KW would be enough to blanket the US in most cases on a reliable basis.

Good idea.  The AM broadcast band has become wall to wall QRM at night.

Ground conductivity in central MD is rather poor so your loop on ground may perform satisfactorily.

Good thing that YXL (Sioux Lookout) is not in the U.S., or they would be required to change their name.

Shhhh... don't tell anybody but...
414  SU     Sioux City  IA
368  SOY   Sioux Center  IA  (this one has been miskeying as SOO)
245  FS     Sioux Falls  SD

You got me curious as to why a town in northwest Ontario would be named "Sioux" since AFAIK this is Ojibway territory.  Some quick research shows that this location was probably an Ojibway "lookout" for advancing Sioux.

I notice that Port Asbestos is no longer operational

Looks like you may be right, can't seem to find an approved published approach for Port Asbestos.  ;)
