Utility / Re: What's up with WLO Marine?
« on: October 12, 2018, 0247 UTC »
That's sad, i also haven't heard 6318 CW from Seattle in a while. Could it been off the air or something?

I'm right by Seattle, so I tuned in and am receiving nothing.  Doing a little digging, it turns out KLB (6318 Seattle) is also owned by ShipCom, the owners of WLO.

So probably in the same situation.  :(

00:25 The Doors SINPO: 15511

Barely readable here, but enough to make out the song.  Conditions should improve as we hit dusk.

Refmo, shouldn't the title read 06 Oct 2018?  :)

Out in the PNW like SnohomishScoop.  Getting a bit of a signal, but not enough to identify the audio except when it happens to briefly fade in.  SINPO 15511 - just breaking the noise floor.

Getting better Rx of it on my IC-R75 than my afredri

23:07 can hear music but not clear enough above the noise to identify yet.

01:40 Came back to my radio, reception has improved :-)

SINPO: 35533  Signal about an S6 with some slight fade.

01:43 Rush - Tom Sawyer
01:45 Mix Radio Station ID
01:45 Aerosmith - Dream On
01:50 Mix Radio Station ID
01:50 Flock of Seagulls - I Ran

Not making it out to the Pacific NW (14:54 PDT so still daylight), but will keep an eye out for it.

Also hearing it in the Cascade foothills of WA, 30 miles east of Seattle.  SINPO: 45322  Have some wx here, otherwise would probably be clearer.

01:13 Queen - Another One Bites the Dust
01:15 Unknown (by me) - Electronica?  Female vocals

Making it out to the pacific northwest!  0151 UTC  SINPO: 35322

Unfortunately, I don't recognize any of the music because my taste lies elsewhere so I can't log song names, but it's clear enough for me to make out the songs.

I would guess if it's buried it needs to have a waterproof dielectric?

10/11 meters / Re: 11m Activity 26 May 2017

Just talked AM skip on channel 22 from WA to CA running barefoot (4w or however it came out of the factory).  Skip is pretty good tonight.

My handle is "Staticbox" because I listen to SW, lol. On SSB it's "RST111 Washington"  If someone logs me, I'll send an eQSL.

I've found it really difficult to pull in 11m without a longwire or 11m antenna.  Most of my scanners on a discone are deaf to stuff I can pick up on the Afedri attached to a longwire or my CB attached to an 11m antenna.

You could always make an 11m dipole.  Even tacked up to the wall it should work better than the other antennas in my experience.

As far as ID'ing the location, I can only do that when they call out where they're from.  Otherwise, yeah, it's pretty difficult.  I heard one guy from CA talking with a really clean signal and a good mixer.  It was like "VHF FM clean" coming in.  Until he said where he was, I would have thought he was just down the road.

Skip is rolling in mainly from CA here to WA.  Had a 10m contact with CA tonight as well.

Those spatter boxes, tho....

RST111, I lived in Seattle for a time. Are you living in the Snoqualmie/North Bend area?

Directly north from there up 203 in the Carnation / Duvall area.

I get him really, really clear most times up here in WA state.  He might be over the border in Canada and beyond FCC reach.  Not sure how lax the Canadian enforcement is, though.

Pretty much a circus on 11m now.  Picking up Vegas, GA, and CA, but can't tell if that's because of skip or the guys with flamethrowers are out because of skip, and I'd hear them anyhow.  Either way, the band is busy.

Starting to see some openings on 10 and 11.   Beacons coming in on 10, and on 11 I heard a QSO from CA to ID with traffic picking up across the 11m band.
