One thing that I find interesting is that this guy caused unintended, harmful interference that impacted people (though apparently no one was hurt or killed) and he was not punished. In fact, his name was not revealed.

I'm not suggesting that he should be punished, but I find it interesting that AM/MW/FM pirates generally do not cause interference that impacts people's lives greatly (despite somewhat greatly overstated claims of potential interference) other than to some money-grubbing broadcasters and yet governments/PTT/whatever usually come down on them like a ton of bricks.

Just wondering if they have permission to spew all this electronic garbage.

There is a all digital test station nearby in Frederick MD on 820 kHz. It spews so much junk that it completely blocks 810 and 830. There was a post in a Facebook AM radio group from one of the guys behind it, talking about how wonderful it was and how it doesn't cause interference. I posted some waterfalls showing it, and they completely ignored it. They're sold on the technology to "save" AM, and don't care about reality.

Fair enough but I was referring to spewing electronic noise inside and in the proximity of an electric car.

His biggest concern for the future of AM radio is the electric car. “A few manufacturers have already eliminated AM radios from their electric car models, and several more have made it clear they will not have AM radios in their future models,” he said.

“We have been told the cost to filter the interference to AM radio from the car gets into the hundreds of dollars per car,” Cooney said.

So mobile operation on the 160-meter band in a Tesla might not be too fun.

Just wondering if they have permission to spew all this electronic garbage.

Yes, I'm hearing this too. I keep missing the IDs though. Best reception seems to be in Central Europe: Switzerland, northern Italy, Austria, etc., which means that it is probably coming from northern Europe, in my experience at this time of the day.

Bad QRM from peskies on 6211 USB. Listening to the LSB at the moment.

0755 - Jazz music
0800 - Announcement or ID then into remake of Black Sabbath's "Paranoid".
0806 - ID. Definitely sounded like "King Music Radio" or "Bing Music Radio".

The source of the problem was a homemade battery-operated device designed by a local resident to alert him if someone was upstairs when he was working in his basement.

Jeepers, perhaps a bit overpowered given that it was hosing things up for a few blocks around.

"..He thought it would be wise to connect his 1-Watt transmitter to an old TV antenna on his roof..."
