Much better signal on this freq in Switzerland than on 3945 KHz.

1754 - into Boz Skags, "Lido Shuffle". SINPO 53355.

767
beware, a Dutch closing down can stay for more than one hour... 1748 bye-bye

True. He doesn't like to say good bye for real.

768
Interesting. I do not hear Dutch stations doing a lot of "QSO-type" exchanges.

When I was in Italy I would listen to the Greek MW pirates occasionally and "roundtable QSOs" were a staple of their activity. Somebody would play a song and say something before or after the song then they would drop the carrier and someone else would pick it up and do the same thing.

Ah, tiens, déjà ?, avec les ronds-points bloqués par les gilets jaunes ?

Mais si.  Les ronds-points ne sont pas bloqués au Pays-Bas....

1733 UTC - "In a few weeks it will be Christmas, eh?" followed by something in Dutch over the top of a song about driving home for Christmas.

Reception is very good in Switzerland. SINPO 54354 with some sort of periodic "flamethrower" (data) QRM on ~4026 KHz about every 15 seconds or so.

1741 - Closing down announcement.

1750 - TX off.

771
Good reception with some rapid fading in Switzerland. SINPO 43233 at 1730 UTC with "It Never Rains In Southern California" amid QRN crashes.

Announcer has an Irish accent.  ;) :D

I have the frequency as 3944.92 for those folks getting a weak carrier and wanting to know exactly where it is.

Effective Jan 01, 2005 U.S. Coast Guard long range communications stations NMF, NMN, NMA, NMG, NMC, NMO, NOJ and NRV changed their single sideband voice radio guard to the following simplex frequencies: 4125, 6215, 8291, and 12290 kHz. These frequencies are intended for initial voice contact and distress alerts and working only.

FWIW, it should also be noted that I hear plenty of 'other' activity on 6215 +/- where it would seemingly cause interference: peskies, utes, whatever.

2013 UTC - SINPO 43344 in Switzerland with 1950's twangy guitar rock.
2028 UTC - "This is Radio Alice. Ooo la la!"
2029 UTC - "The records this evening are for Martin in Keel."

Propagation / foF2 Map Discrepancy
« on: November 24, 2018, 2007 UTC »
Hey Chris,

I see quite a discrepancy between the Australian SWS real-time foF2 map:

http://www.sws.bom.gov.au/HF_Systems/6/5

and the equivalent map on the HFU propagation page:

https://www.hfunderground.com/propagation/#ionosphere

For reinforcement, I got some contemporary data from North American ionosonde data and it much more closely aligns with the SWS than the HFU maps.

Since there is really only one source for real time ionosonde data, I am going to assume that map on the HFU page is predicted by the software mentioned on the map and not based upon real time measurements. Correct?

I realize that recent ionosonde data is featured here, later on the page:

https://www.hfunderground.com/propagation/#skipzone

but I would think that this could be made a bit more clear.

Good signal on Swiss SDRs at 1915 UTC.

776
Hear "their type of music" at 1915 UTC on 5140 on SDR in Switzerland. Reception is poor there, probably skipping over the RX. SINPO 13222.

Good signal on Swiss SDRs. SINPO 45454. Best I have ever heard them.

1923 UTC - Jazz music.

1933 UTC - however, it has faded significantly. SINPO 24322. Will lose the signal in a few minutes at this rate.

778
Sounds like The Grateful Dead at 2313.
Checked back at 0137 and hear some jazz. Presumed to still be them.

779
You have transmitter problems, mate - VFO is FMing with modulation. BTW frequency is 6925.25 right now.

To the OP - OK on the LULU but I am using AM. It looks ugly on the SDR display.  ;D

That was me from NM.  For the record, I always state right up front that I'm listening via online SDR.

OK and thanks. I think in this case it is fairly obvious too.  :)
