Shortwave Broadcast / WWCR 6115 A.M. 23:25 UTC 12/19/2019
« on: December 19, 2019, 2331 UTC »
The Overcomer Ministry talk show.

These folks always work hard to spread the faith.  Picking this up almost as well as a strong local A.M. station, with only a normal telescoping antenna.  I usually need to add some random length wire to pick up any shortwave.

Around 884 miles (around 1423 km) from my location.

Good signal, but not great.

3:44 - "Living For the City,"  Stevie Wonder.

The song is about a black man in NYC who gets framed for drug possession in a racist society.  I wonder whether this was deliberate anti-U.S. propaganda, or an otherwise random selection.

Shortwave Broadcast / NHK World Radio Japan 6105 A.M. 2:55 UTC.

Signal fading in and out with a lot of static.  Picked up good enough reception for a Shazam ID:

2:55 UTC:  "A Stinging Spica" by Polkadot Stingray.

Same quality signal as my last post.  Coming in strong and clear enough to pick up the sermon - this one is from a Woman preacher.  The oration ended at 4:45 UTC and now the station is playing some uplifting spiritual pop music.

OK signal.  Lots of static, but good enough for me to pick up the sermon.  Not a big deal for me to pick up something US based, (around 1,175 miles from my QTH) but I normally don't pick up things well at night past 7200 or so.

Shortwave Broadcast / Russian station 7520 A.M. 3:55 UTC 12/08/2019
« on: December 08, 2019, 0408 UTC »
Male voice was clearly speaking Russian.  Nothing on any Shortwave schedules had this frequency in use at the time, and no Russian broadcasts on nearby frequencies.  My SDR picked it up strong starting at on 7515, but signal meter showed the peak to be at 7520.  Signal cut off completely at 4:00 UTC - voice inflection and closing style music indicated it was the end of the show.

Anybody know what this was. The signal was so strong, that either propagation is incredible tonight, or it had a U.S. broadcast origin.

Bad audio, but you can make out the horn sounds which don't appear to be interference:

Just getting started with SDR, so not sure if this waterfall is helpful at all:

This link has all the relevant information:

https://amsat-uk.org/2019/12/02/iss-sstv-dec-4-5-and-6/

I've got a radio and a SDR tuned in.  I was hoping to get something from the last pass, but the Space Station didn't get any closer than 275 miles.

I'll post any pictures that I'm able to decode.

Great signal.  I always pick up WWCR best on this frequency.  Talk show.

Good signal, but not great.  Religious programming.

Shortwave Broadcast / WWRB 3185 A.M. 3:35 UTC 02 Dec 2019

Considering the short distance from my location to the transmitter, I'm getting a weak signal with a lot of noise.  Enough clarity to pick up the sermon.

Coming in strong, almost as good as a local A.M. station The transmitter in Issoudun France is blasting out the signal at 500 KW.

ID and Translation Requests / Is this Burmese?
« on: December 01, 2019, 0532 UTC »
I neglected to log the frequency, but last Friday Night, (NYC time) I think I picked up Myanmar Radio.  According to https://www.shortwaveschedule.com/?now=true, I was tuned into the frequency that the station was broadcasting at.  I'd like to take credit for picking up the broadcast that originated 8,405 miles (13,526.54 kilometers) from my location, as this would be a record reception distance for me.  The problem is that I neither speak nor understand Burmese.  I can pick up a number of different languages, but have no idea what this one is.  This is neither great reception, nor great audio, but some words should be recognizable.  Please give a listen and let me know whether this is indeed Burmese.  If not, then any idea what the language is?

Many thanks!
