Shortwave Broadcast / Re: Radio Nacional de Amazonia 6180

I agree although its futile (but fun)to compare the "good ol' days" of the Cold War 80's broadcasters with what's out there today.  Most of the SW Superstations are gone, reduced or aren't targeting North American anymore so they aren't burying the tropical stations like they used to.  Just a theory.

It's amazing how that station, day in and day out, seems to deliver an S9 signal up here on both 11780 and 6180.

Its 6,324 miles from transmit site to your QTH.   You got me by 1,530 miles - those 250 Brazilian watts must be working OT tonite

Equipment / Re: What are you using for SWLing?
« on: May 11, 2020, 2357 UTC »
I have a few SW receivers but my Yaesu Frg-7700 is still my favorite analog radio. I picked it up on EBAY (they are frequently for sale there)  for a $167 bid and have picked up stations from the Caribbean to New Zealand using only an Alpha Delta full Sloper antenna.  I still smile each time I power up the "Frog".
For what its worth, keep in mind that there are a lot of "moving parts" to shortwave DX'ng, i.e. weather, time of day, solar activity, seasonal fluctuations, etc etc so don't get discouraged if you don't get "all the hits all the time".   Enjoy the hunt - its all part of the fun.

Good to see some newbies posting here !

Al, one of my Uncle's managed to miss WWII and that dust up in Korea. He loved to watch "World At War" and other similar stuff. I was at his house one day,and he was watching one of those slaughterfests. I said to him, "Dave, you do know those are real people getting blown to Hell, don't you?" The way his eyes bugged out showed me he didn't

Shortwave Broadcast / Best RHC signal in years
« on: May 06, 2020, 1354 UTC »
SINPO: 55555 on 13740 KHZ @ 13:39 in Spanish targeting South America.  I almost skipped over this thinking it was Radio Marti when I caught the ID @ 13:40 (ID again at 13:41 & 13:44) . OM narrative with YF joining conversation at 13:47.   Especially intriguing cuz transmitting out of Bejucal @ only 50 KW.
Still crystal clear on the 7700 @ 13:53. No degradation whatsoever.

Simulcast on 13700 out of Bauta  at 100 KW  also to S. America was lessened to 43333.

SINPO: 3-2-3-4-3 ON 13835 KHZ @ 13:30 with female narrative no music, minor QRN, minimal fading.
YM joined conversation at 13:37

Equipment / Deoxit recommendation
« on: April 29, 2020, 1503 UTC »
Looks like I'm going to have to clean up the contacts on the Yaesu FRG-7700 so I went online to order Deoxit.  I was surprised at the number of different variations there are of that stuff.   Any recommendations as to which Deoxit works best for this application?
Thanks,
Don
