1915 trace of music. Too weak to ID then gone.

Not really moving the s meter but clear audio here.

That will be fine on SW but on MW (Txing), the SW feedline running close to the tower may cause an issue with tuning.

if you took time to read what i said i didn't say we were closed down our link to the tx got closed down our aerial was down our web site got closed down fact .I t was nothing to do with short wave I said we will be off air for a break as we didn't know what was going on .our aerial is now back up.We went off air for security reason ,and no link to our tx

stated Paul Watt.

One thing we can all agree on is that Brian is Brain(y)

Very good Jock. I didn't cop that  :D

Very wide 12 Khz audio today

Sounds like Ofcom had nothing to do with it, this time.

It's just a load of attention seeking drama. He's been posting on every message board about being closed down.

Nothing to see here!

Equipment / Re: DRM pirates
« on: July 24, 2020, 1542 UTC »
I used the DReaM software to generate DRM about 16 or 17 years ago. I had to modify my high level audio MW transmitter in some way to take the coded signal. Can't recall exactly what I had to do but there were 2 outputs from the PC. One output went into the normal audio input on the TX and the other went to a small circuit that I had to put in the output of the PLL oscillator.
I don't think the mod is needed on modern transmitters though.

It worked.............sort of.  Not having a portable DRM radio was not ideal for field tests but I was able to decode it on another PC in the house with a modified radio.

Just going by my experience of folded dipoles on band 2 VHF, I would say that the bandwidth is considerably better. I've been toying with the idea of making one for HF transmission but I'm not sure if I can build one to handle the power I would be using.

Too little information.
Are you comparing SW with MW?

Looks like the same design as an old aerial I used to use made by Diamond. A BU-50.
It worked pretty well but then again, it's quite easy to match a valve transmitter to almost anything.

I read about the active antenna again, and it says that the antenna must be powered by some sort of linear Power Supply. But all my power supply is switching mode psu, and that might cause excess noise and intermodulation?
I will try to get a 12V rechargeable battery from the shed, and will try with that to see if the situation will improve.

Shouldn't have to say this but get rid of the SMPSU asap!

Hi Ray
finally got my 1/4 wave vertical running, 100 watts carrier off one of stretchy's Xmitter's using pwm with stereo tool looking after the audio processing

Good signal at this time, but storms are rising.
'stereo' : really ? what system ?

Stereo Tool is the audio processing software. It doesn't mean the transmitter is in stereo.

Equipment / Re: Antenna projects that were not successful

Decided to "upgrade" my MW transmission aerial from the inverted L that I was using to a short vertical.
Plan was to be about 65 feet tall using aluminum poles of different diameters that slot into each other, like a massive telescopic aerial, sitting on insulators.
Couldn't get it above about 50 feet high though so that would have to do. The 3 top stay wires were acting as loading.
Managed to match it to 50 ohms and switched on the 1KW TX. SWR was perfect........for a  few seconds and then rapidly rose to beyond an acceptable level.
Water had got in to where the pole was sitting on the base insulator and the RF was literally boiling the water. No problem. Quick redesign and that was fixed.
A few weeks later I noticed that the tension of the top wires had altered slightly so the uppermost section was bending slightly to one side.
No problem, I'll sort it out in due course. Famous last words!
High winds took out the top 20 feet.  It remaining 30 feet is now used to hang an inverted V HF antenna and the MW TX is back on the inv L.
