Via NA5B SDR near Washington, D.C. Fair to good signal in between the noise ...

0220 UTC: "Couldn't Get it Right" by Climax Blues Band.
0222 UTC: "Karn Evil 9 1st Impression" by ELP.
0226 UTC: "Bang Your Head" by Quiet Riot.
0230 UTC: Sounded like an ID as Quiet Riot was winding down.
0232 UTC: ID and a shoutout, then "Whip It" by Devo.
0235 UTC: "When the Levee Breaks" by Led Zeppelin.
0242 UTC: OM with last song title, chatting about the coming weekend.
0243 UTC: "New Kid in Town" by Eagles.
0248 UTC: "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd. Signal's a bit louder versus the noise on the SDR.
0255 UTC: "Who Needs Information" by Roger Waters.
0300 UTC: "In the City" by Eagles.

Thanks for the tunes!

The 49-meter band's been pretty noisy lately out here in the evenings, so I haven't heard Radio Aparecida or Radio Santa Cruz on this frequency for months.

But tonight, in between the noise on 6135, I heard this Brazilian fading in with a man preaching in Portuguese and musical interludes at times just ahead of 0300 UTC.

Shortwave Broadcast / Radio Saudi 15285 AM 0419 UTC 18 May 2020

Conditions on the upper half of the shortwave bands seemed better than usual after sunset here last night, so I was tuning up there when I tripped on Radio Saudi broadcasting Swahili on a southwest beam toward Africa.

The signal was struggling to stay at audible levels on my radio and by 0430 UTC, it faded out.

While scanning past 11860, I found a weak but audible signal with a male speaking in Arabic. After 0310 UTC, the talking gave way to Middle Eastern music that stayed above the evening noise and got slightly better as time went on; still listening to it now.

I double-checked with an SDR near Washington, D.C., and one in Kuwait City, Kuwait, to confirm that I was hearing. SINPO 25232.

I'd never even heard of this broadcast service via Nauen until I looked it up last night.

The religious program in Arabic lasts only 15 minutes, so it was off by 0615 UTC. Female and male announcers speaking in Arabic with music underneath most of the time. The signal aimed at North Africa and the Middle East was weak, but consistently audible.

This was a weak signal, but the talking in presumed Kachin and music were audible between when I tuned in and signoff. This broadcast is beamed toward Asia, though if it's on the beam listed in short-wave.info, it seems to be directed too far north for most Kachin speakers.

114
I caught the BBC via Moosbrunn broadcasting in presumed Hausa aimed straight at Africa. The noisy, weak signal had mostly audible talking by a male, with musical stings, then talking by a female.

He's baaack ...

After not hearing YHWH for a week or so, he's back with a fair signal. A bit early for him compared to his usual broadcast window.

0325 UTC: Not hearing him now, but I still hear a carrier as we hit sunset here.

Caught Adventist World Radio via Nauen with a very good signal from 1650-1700 UTC. Audible programming in presumed Tigrinya, first a male talking and then a catchy song just before signoff at 1659 UTC. Better than most daytime signals from Europe here.

Shortwave Broadcast / Eye Radio 15410 AM 1625 UTC 5 May 2020
« on: May 05, 2020, 2204 UTC »
This is one of the signs of the coming summer for me: Eye Radio's audible again during the mornings out here on the West Coast.

Caught the station broadcasting from Issoudun, France, with a weak but very audible signal, except on the fades after 1635 UTC. Lots of talking in Arabic (Sudanese Arabic, according to the schedule) by a male host and a short “news-like” musical sting at 1633 UTC. SINPO 25322 at the peaks, but it degraded from there as the hour went on.

Heard this Sacramento, California, station playing a Relevant Radio network religious talk show, which stayed mostly on top of the frequency and peaked loud and clear every few minutes over Seattle's KYIZ.

This station runs 1,000 watts at night; distance from me is 652 miles.

MW Loggings / WBBM 780 AM 0711 UTC UTC 3 May 2020

I heard a distinctive signal behind KKOH, which usually dominates 780, and was able to mostly null the Reno station to hear news of a Chicago area fire, a report on vending machines and other news and weather that I matched with WBBM’s online stream.

The signal was weak, but peaked at times through the waves of fading until KKOH went back on top for good by about 0730 UTC. Even then, however, WBBM could be heard in the background. This one’s listed as 42 kW at night; distance from me is 1,699 miles.

Decent signal tonight staying above the noise before local sunset out here, though with YHWH's characteristic deep fading at times.
