Josiah in mid-rant about Yahweh. Much better signal here than other recent evenings.

Via NA5B in D.C. ...

Piano riff being repeated like an interval signal.

0100 UTC: Male announcer with ID right into "She's Like the Wind."
0104 UTC: "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas. I sense a theme.
0107 UTC: ID into "Windy" by The Association.
0110 UTC: "Winds of Change" By Scorpions. This wide AM signal's wiping out WDOG down on 6955 USB, at least via this SDR.

0119 UTC: Music's now just barely audible in LSB mode directly out here near Seattle.

This is the second time in recent weeks I've caught the end of this broadcast ...

BBC weak but with audible talking by a male in presumed Bengali. Moderate fading and noise, but no interference. This went off promptly at 1700 UTC after a short snippet of closing music.

Sri Lanka's not always audible year-round from here, so I was skeptical the first time I logged this on March 31. But all the listings I can find show this is coming via Trincomalee.

The signal's only faded up to audible levels within the past couple minutes, but it's been there for at least five to 10 minutes overall. Despite the noisy frequency, I can hear Josiah with his usual material.

Shortwave Broadcast / Radio Mali 5995 AM 0635 UTC 20 April 2020
« on: April 20, 2020, 0657 UTC »
I tuned to 5995 kHz before heading to sleep and found Radio Mali as strong as I ever have with a woman talking in very readable French. That lasted for a few minutes before the noise level crept up and the signal faded somewhat. By 0654 UTC, it was barely audible.

According to a Google search, the noise really hit about 30 minutes after local sunrise in Bamako, Mali. No interference from Radio Habana Cuba on 6000 kHz; it's been relatively weak on that frequency for weeks.

I tuned into music and heard a quick female-voiced ID between songs say “Unforgettable 1430 KLO” into another classic soft rock song. The signal from this station in Odgen/Layton, Utah, was completely on top of KYKN in much-closer Keiser, Oregon. By 0728 UTC, the Oregon station was mostly on top, but the music from KLO was still audible, including “Sundown” by Gordon Lightfoot and Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight.”

In addition to KYKN, a sports talk station (KCLK?) was mixing in. KLO runs 5 kW at night; distance from me is 690 miles.

BBC via the Yerevan-Gavar site ... When I tuned in, there was just a hint of a signal, but it faded up over a couple minutes to audible voices – both male and female talking. Still, it was poor overall, with choppy fading and atmospheric noise, though overall noise was relatively low. The signal waned for several minutes, then came back to mostly audible level around 0254 UTC; closing music at 0259 UTC, then signal off.

It was replaced by BBC via Abu Dhabi right at 0300 UTC. That came in weaker than Armenia.

Under the sports talk of Portland’s KPOJ, which dominates 620 here, I could hear Southeast Asian music fade up at times to an audible level. This was Radio Punjab programming, which simulcasts on KIGS in Fresno/Hanford, California.

The signal was never close to KPOJ’s, but it was audible at the peaks. KIGS runs 1,000 watts all the time; distance from me is 817 miles.

Weird footnote, according to Wikipedia: The family of Steve Perry from Journey started this station, and the station building and transmitter towers (the original still are standing) is the basis of the cover art for Journey's "Raised on Radio" cover. I looked at the Google Street View of the transmitter site, and it's indeed very similar to the cover art.

MW Loggings / CFLD 760 AM 0640 UTC 12 April 2020

I heard this 1-kW station up in Burns Lake, British Columbia, playing Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know,” as it mixed with San Diego’s KFMB. At 0643 UTC, there was a promo ID, a COVID-19 public service announcement by a local firm, then another ID into Maroon 5’s “Memories,” all of which matched the online stream.

KFMB stayed on top much of the time, but CFLD could be heard consistently underneath. This station simulcasts CFBV 870 kHz in Smithers, B.C. The distance from me is 459 miles.

A weak but mostly audible signal with news in presumed Pashto at the top of the hour, followed with other programming at 0307 UTC. Off by 0330 UTC. Some choppy fading and atmospheric hiss but little static.

While I've heard BBC via the UAE at other times, my first time hearing this broadcast. Not sure if I'm hearing the back end of this signal or hearing it from across Asia.

Lots of noise, but a fair signal as Josiah goes through one of his usual rants.

After logging one Eastern Canada maritime station a week or so ago, I've been trying to hear a few others. Heard this one from Halifax, Nova Scotia, this evening. Synth female voice giving weather and forecast information in French.

Reception was noisy with some fading, but clear voice with no garbling, and the signal gained a bit of strength in the first few minutes after tuning it in. Still audible at 0314 UTC.

Shortwave Broadcast / Al-Azm Radio 11745 am 1635 UTC 07 April 2020
« on: April 07, 2020, 2033 UTC »
When I first tuned in, I heard more noise than audio, but the carrier was evident. By 1635 UTC and afterward, the audio faded up and I heard talking in Arabic, mostly in male voices, but at least one female voice, too. I compared it to the signal as heard from an SDR in Romania (YO3IUL).

From 1643-1700 UTC, the programming alternated between Arabic music and talking. By 1700 UTC, it was still audible, but just barely most of the time. When I checked back at 1800 UTC, Firedrake dominated the frequency to jam Radio Free Asia.

Good morning overall for hearing Saudi, as Radio Saudi was nearly local-like on 13710 kHz and very listenable on 15435 kHz as well just before 1700 UTC.

Came on right after Virus 19 Radio ... listening via SDR in Warrenton, Virginia. A lower signal than Virus 19's. But I just checked my radio here near Seattle, and it's audible above the noise floor here.

0124 UTC: Started with "Pirate Radio" by Mojo Nixon.
0129 UTC: ID over electronic music.
0131 UTC: "Moving in Stereo" by The Cars.
0136 UTC: OM announcer with ID, talking about "morons" hoarding TP, etc., says he knows somebody recovering from the virus. Noisy signal all of a sudden!
0138 UTC: ID into "Turn Up the Radio" by Autograph.
0143 UTC: ID and a bit of chat into "Lonely is the Night" by Billy Squier.
0148 UTC: "Overture/The Temples of Syrinx" by Rush.

Thanks for the music, Sycko!

Tuned into one of his usual frequencies and found a good, though noisy, signal here. As usual, doing his usual anti-religion shtick.
