Shortwave Broadcast / Re: All India Radio 9620 AM 1854 utc 27 FEB 2023
« on: February 27, 2023, 1915 UTC »
That 9620 frequency was coming in fairly well at times earlier this winter here on the West Coast. It's not been strong enough to overcome daytime noise in the past several weeks, however. Instead, I'm hearing AIR on 15210 kHz most days between about 0145 and 0415 these days.

QSLs Received / Re: LRA36 RN Arcangel eQSL

Same received here for hearing Saturday's broadcast directly at my location for the first time.

123
0117 UTC: Big, loud signal via the Northern Utah SDR, though with some fading.
0121 UTC: Fair to good signal via the KA7U SDR on Idaho-Oregon border.
0122 UTC: Collage of soundbites, including from "Pump Up the Volume," to start broadcast.
0124 UTC: "Under the Stars" by Morning Parade. Still listening via the KA7U SDR, as only bits and pieces of audio are audible so far in my pre-sunset location.
0128 UTC: Redhat opens the mic: "Well, here we are ...," then talks about his technical troubles this evening, including keyboard troubles.
0132 UTC: Redhat reading HFU posts. To answer the question: Moving up 5 kHz is fine by me, though I can't hear the interfering ute.
0138 UTC: Canned ID into song "My Culture" by 1 Giant Leap & Robbie Williams.
0143 UTC: Canned ID and then "Shot in the Dark" by AC/DC.
0146 UTC: Canned ID into "Sulfur" by Slipknot.
0149 UTC: Still listening via the Oregon-Idaho border SDR. Not yet making it out here at a consistently readable level.
0151 UTC: Redhat back on mic, updating us on his keyboard troubles, reading new HFU posts, talking about propagation conditions.
0158 UTC: Canned ID and then "Lost" by Linkin Park.
0201 UTC: Canned ID into "Electric Feel" by MGMT.
0206 UTC: Canned ID and then "Big in Japan (Juloboy Remix)" by Alphaville (a classic!).
0210 UTC: Redhat on mic with ID and time check, then reviewing previously played songs, talking about Linkin Park's late frontman and a Louisville record store. Then HFU shout-outs and mentions "SAS" mode on an SDR makes the sound separate a bit (it does; I just tried it!).
0217 UTC: Now listening via the KPH-HF SDR, as the signal's not yet reached readable levels here at my place.
0221 UTC: Canned ID into "Imperialism" by Anti-Flag ft. Ashrita Kumar.
0225 UTC: Canned ID and then "Panic Switch" by Silversun Pickups.
0230 UTC: Canned ID into "Hostage" by AP Tobler.
0233 UTC: "Take the World" by She Wants Revenge.
0239 UTC: Redhat back on mic, reviewing previously played songs and doing HFU shout-outs, mentions upcoming requests. Also talks about broadcasting to relax.
0246 UTC: Canned ID, then "On My Knees" by Rufus Du Sol.
0251 UTC: Canned ID into "Ur Mum" by Wet Leg. (THANKS FOR PLAYING MY REQUEST!)
0255 UTC: "Pepper (Acoustic version)" by Death Cab for Cutie.

0355 UTC: Redhat's wondering how many HFU posters are still listening. I am!

Thanks for the music tonight!

I've got a whole load of reception notes taken between about 22:40 and 23:38 UTC, when I thought it went off the air. It was never very readable here north of Seattle, but I could hear both music and sometimes talking peaking about every two minutes. It was especially strong around 2330 UTC. Very cool to hear LRA36 directly for once!

Not booming in here near Seattle, but I can make out the audio through the noise by setting it to USB on 7399 kHz...

0500 UTC: "Oh L'Amour" by Erasure.
0504 UTC: After another English song, sounded like a Portuguese ID, then "Whataya Want From Me" by Adam Lambert.

Also audible via SDRs in Northern Utah, Northern Nevada, and Brasilia, Brazil.

Very faint audio as of 0130 UTC heard on this frequency from the Nothern Utah SDR. Sounds mostly like a man talking at present.

Has been only music for a while on an SDR in Argentina.

Yep - just noticed that when I toggled to the SDR in Uruguay. Wondering if I heard a random peskie via Utah instead, as the audio's no longer being heard there.

0145 UTC: Hearing an SSTV transmission with good strength via the Ramos Mejia, Buenos Aires SDR in Argentina.
0146 UTC: Off? :(

129
As of 2340 UTC, it's weak but audible with rock music the past 20 minutes or so via the Northern Utah SDR. No audio making it to my radio out here in Washington state.

Just got back from walking our dog, turned on the radio, and this station's got a HUGE signal here tonight in the northern suburbs of Seattle ...

0245 UTC: "Fox on the Run" by Sweet.
0248 UTC: "Twilight Zone" by Golden Earring.
0256 UTC: "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits (we're apparently in the eight-minute-long songs part of the evening).
0304 UTC: "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits.
0310 UTC: "Legs" by ZZ Top.

Thanks for the Friday night music!

Listening via the Northern Utah SDR ...

0131 UTC: "Hells Bells" by AC/DC. Fair reception.

132
Signal's struggling to get above the daytime noise here near Seattle, but fair to good via the Northern Utah SDR ...

2302 UTC: End of song, then SSTV transmission.
2304 UTC: "Roundabout" by Yes.

133
Very good in AM mode here near Seattle ...

0329 UTC: Piano jazz music.
0332 UTC: OM with ID and identifying the songs just played. Also giving HFU shout-outs. Gave another ID going into next song.
0333 UTC: "The Queen's Fancy" by The Modern Jazz Quartet.
0336 UTC: "Delaunay's Dilemma" by The Modern Jazz Quartet.
0340 UTC: OM starts talking, next song starts accidentally, then an enthusiastic "You're listening to B Side Radio!" ID before calling out more HFU posters.
0342 UTC: "The Entertainer" cover by Joshua Rifkin (the record briefly slowed for a quick moment).
0347 UTC: Mentions the accidental turning off of the turntable, then previews the song coming up.
0348 UTC: "Fascinating Rhythm" by Stan Getz.
0356 UTC: OM with ID again, then talking about the Getz song and its unusual rhythm. A bit of deep fading at times now.
0357 UTC: Talks about next song and then plays "China Gate" by Ramsey Lewis.
0400 UTC: "Emily" by Ramsey Lewis. The signal's peaking on my radio's little meter at about S7, but the fade outs are coming more frequent.
0403 UTC: OM with ID, some talk about the songs, and mentions the propagation conditions are changing.
0404 UTC: "Tea for Two (live version from 1964)" by Earl Hines on piano.
0410 UTC: OM again talking, mentions this is the final song of the night, then plays "Miles and Miles" by Chet Baker.
0418 UTC: OM accidentally starts playing the record again, mentions the previous song, and then decides to play one more while also thanking the listeners and HFU posters.
0419 UTC: "Minor Chant" by Jimmy Smith.
0427 UTC: Off.

Thanks for all the music! Please eQSL if you can.

134
0228 UTC: Sounded like the end of Duran Duran's "Girls on Film" into Kim Wilde's "Kids in America." Fair at best, but more readable here near Seattle than the current pirate on 6950 kHz.

0232 UTC: Off.

135

Just turned on the radio at 0220 UTC ...

The music's struggling to stay above the noise here near Seattle, but I can hear it pretty consistently.
