Shortwave Broadcast / CNR 8 9785 AM 0745 UTC 12 July 2020
« on: July 13, 2020, 0116 UTC »
I'll admit that I usually treat the many, many CNR stations I hear from China as pests, but this one caught my ear early this morning local time: CNR 8 via Beijing in Korean. Music playing on this good signal, then talking a moment later, into musical introduction to what sounded like news or current affairs. SINPO 35333.

Stumbled upon Manara Radio International via Issoudun, France, on 13840 kHz in presumed Hausa aimed straight south at Africa. Audible bits of a male talking with music at times. The weak signal held steady but never strengthened during the 10 minutes I listened. SINPO 25522.

Utility / WWV 2.5/5/10/15/20/25 MHz AM 0709 UTC 12 July 2020

The WWV signals on 25000 and 20000 kHz have been routinely audible lately up here near Seattle. But just after midnight locally this morning, I heard WWV on all of its shortwave frequencies at the same time; been a long time since I remember that last happening. Good to excellent signals on 5000, 10000, 15000 and 20000 kHz. The two "end" frequencies -- 2500 and 25000 kHz -- were fair at best.

Just hearing the preaching audio peaking through the noise so far.

Just turned on my radio here at 0338 UTC to hear a nice audible signal with music. Not quite clear enough to ID the song.

0341 UTC: SSTV transmission immediately following the song.
0342 UTC: Back to music.
0347 UTC: SSTV again.

501

Hear the signal fading up through the noise. First time I've heard Josiah and his usual rant in a couple weeks.

502
Hearing a decently audible signal out here near Seattle, including that talking at 0218 UTC, though it wasn't enough above the noise to be readable.

Back to music again as of 0221 UTC, though there are some more frequent static crashes, as there may be storms in the Cascade Mountains east of me.

503
Programming in Chinese – mostly a woman talking over music – with a poor to fair signal with lots of fading and considerable atmospheric noise. SINPO 25322.

This one broadcasting from Hohhot is a normal fall/winter logging for me rather than summer.

Had to be up "early" (7 a.m. Pacific time) for work today and caught the Japanese language version of this broadcaster, Furusato no Kaze, // on 9560 and 9450 kHz at 1452-1458 UTC.

While 9450 was poor with a barely audible signal, 9560 was fair to good at the peaks with some fading. Woman talking over music, with a website address given in Japanese at 1457 UTC just before sudden signoff.

505

I can hear talking under the noise as of 0007 UTC, but not well enough for it to be readable. Tried SDRs from D.C., Chris' in Westminster, MD, and more up the East Coast.

QSLs Received / Re: ION RADIO 4th of July e-QSL's

Same received here. Thanks, Ion!

Just scanning the band, I found a very good signal from this station this morning on 9685 kHz. SINPO 35333, with some fading at times. I only heard instrumental music for the last part of the broadcast before signoff at 1559 UTC.

I assume this clandestine toward North Korea is still broadcast from Taiwan, but not sure that's certain.

508
0031: "Summer Rain" by Johnny Rivers fading in and out via NA5B SDR near D.C.

509
0029 UTC: Blues-rock song, interrupted by Captain Morgan Shortwave's "Twilight Zone" theme and ID.

510
Not audible via here at my QTH or farther east at the Northern Utah SDR, so I'm listening via NA5B SDR near D.C.

0001 UTC: Some kind of sound collage about number of time zones in the USSR.
0004 UTC: Audio adventure continues with snippets of speaking mixed together with radio noises.
0005 UTC: Talking about suffering for art, telephone calls, etc.
0007 UTC: "Mickey Mouse is Dead" by Subhumans.
0010 UTC: "All Systems Fail" by the Varukers.
0012 UTC: Back to audio collage chaos.
0014 UTC: "Bite the Bullet" by Lower Class Brats.
0017 UTC: "Sick Boy" by G.B.H.
0020 UTC: "Punk's Not Dead" by The Exploited.
0021 UTC: "Oi! Oi! Oi!" by Cockney Rejects. Signal's getting noisy now.
0025 UTC: "Give me more treble!" And more "Clorox cowboy" mentions in another audio collage.
0026 UTC: Off?

Thanks for the music! A Stiff Little Fingers song would be good next time!
