Hearing just barely audible snippets of music while listening in USB out here near Seattle at 2238 UTC. But it's coming in fair to good via the NA5B SDR in Washington, D.C., in AM mode with "The Theory of Everything" by Ayreon.

2243 UTC: "John Barleycorn" by Traffic.
2248 UTC: Signal just got really noisy via NA5B, fading quite a bit.
2249 UTC: Sounds like an early Pink Floyd song.
2258 UTC: "Innocence Faded" by Dream Theater. Signal's coming in better now via NA5B.
2304 UTC: "For You" by Bruce Springsteen. Signal's fading somewhat again via the SDR. The just barely audible signal on my local radio is no longer there.
2308 UTC: "Blinded by the Light" by Springsteen.
2315-16ish UTC: Gone. Thanks for the music!

Listening in USB mode, I've been hearing just barely audible bits and pieces of music bubbling up on the frequency since about 2245 UTC.

Just barely audible out here with music as of 0118 UTC.

With San Diego's KFMB less audible than usual with Mark Levin's show at this hour, WJR was peaking at the same level or slightly above KFMB. The Detroit station was running “The Savage Nation,” with a substitute host talking about coronavirus and then taking calls, followed by an ad break, and back at 0425 UTC with more callers.

By 0428 UTC, KFMB was fading back in somewhat, and CFLD’s music started interfering with the two talk stations. WJR's distance from me is 1,917 miles; between logging this for the first time and hearing WWL, it was a nice time for long reception on Friday night.

I logged this one as "tentative" a month ago, but no doubt about hearing WWL on Friday night.

I tuned in and heard an LSU-Texas college baseball game in the eighth inning with the play-by-play clearly peaking every three minutes or so in between play-by-play of the Tri-City Americans WHL hockey game on KFLD. The broadcast matched the online stream, albeit slightly delayed, when I checked. After 0330 UTC, KFLD was mostly dominating the frequency, with just occasional faint music from CFBV, though the LSU baseball game was audible again at 0339 UTC.

The distance between me and the WWL transmitter is exactly 2,100 miles.

I tuned in and heard Spanish programming, with a promo or ID that mentioned “Radio Luz” and a quick legal ID in English at the top of the hour. That was followed by contemporary Christian songs in Spanish that matched the station’s online stream when I checked.

The signal deteriorated in the 10 minutes after that, with more interference from an unidentified station (possibly KFOX), as well as fluttery fading. This X-bander is listed as 1,000 watts at night; distance from me is approximately 1,020 miles.

While listening to KGVO out of Missoula, I heard music swelling up underneath, so I nulled the Montana station as best I could and, after a few moments, matched the Vietnamese ballad I was hearing with an online stream for KAZA, known as “Viên Thao Radio,” out of Gilroy, California. By 0316 UTC, the music gave way to a female speaking in Vietnamese. The station stayed mostly audible among the frequency’s competing stations, and occasionally equaled KGVO. At intervals, there were musical stings that sounded like part of a newscast. Then a new song in Vietnamese started at 0336 UTC.

This one’s listed as just 88 watts at night. If that's the true wattage, it was traveling the 760-plus miles to me nicely.

I needed my sleep, so I didn't stay up for this signal outage and test. KKOH, as you might expect, dominates 780 out here in the Pacific Northwest. As a result, I haven't yet been patient enough to mess around with my antenna and see if I can ever hear traces of WBBM underneath.

This Saint Helens, Oregon, station is officially assigned to 1600 kHz but has been testing on 1610, according to a couple of MW DXing sites. I didn't know that when I stumbled upon it last night and heard ads for Columbia County and Scappoose, Oregon, then a promo for KOHI’s website and then a religious sermon program until another ad break at 0725 UTC. KOHI is 153 miles in distance from me; it's reportedly testing with 1 kW.

Heard this one in Manti, Utah, playing country music behind KSTE’s political talk, with CISL mixing at times with sports. First heard a Garth Brooks song, then a female announcer, then a Collin Raye song, all of which matched the station’s online stream when I checked. By 0623 UTC, the signal was rising again after several minutes of fading. This one’s listed as just 900 watts at night; distance from me is 796 miles.

Finally logged this one, which I first heard as a teen back in the '80s, when I lived farther away from KAPS in Mount Vernon, Washington. With Calgary’s CFFR news mostly nulled and semi-local KAPS broadcasting a high school basketball game, I could hear country music in the background, with a semi-audible ID in the background and then a “Just Another Love” by Tanya Tucker, which matched KTNN’s online stream when I checked. That was followed by Alabama’s “Roll On,” then talking in mixed Navajo and English by a male announcer; sounded like he was giving events listings. Then ID at 0431 UTC.

KTNN runs 50 kW; the distance from me is 1,080 miles. Now logged stations from 16 states since falling back into MW Dxing four months ago.

The big signal on 880 at night here in Michigan is 50kw WCBS out of NYC.
Been trying for KRVN in Nebraska but they beam away from me at night.
However, did manage to snag lowly 1800 watt daytimer WPIP Winston-Salem NC
in the null of WCBS and under WRFD Columbus OH once on sunrise skip.

Good to hear you are back at your real QTH.   :)

I've snagged KRVN once or twice in recent months. Now logged a half-dozen stations on 880 here in recent months. I'm just far enough away from KIXI's transmitter site in the Seattle area that it can be easily nulled.

Caught this Whitefish, Montana, station when it rose above the thick mess on 880 kHz with a clear ID at 0750 UTC: “107.9 FM and 880 AM, KJJR.” That was followed by returning to a replay of Rush Limbaugh’s show. I heard more IDs in and out of ad breaks at 0755 UTC and 0758 UTC before a legal ID at the top of the hour. With local KIXI nulled, KJJR’s only real competition on this evening was CHQT out of Edmonton. This station is listed as running 500 watts at night; distance from me is 357 miles.

My first logging since returning to our regular house after seven months on the other side of town here!

As a former resident of Talent, Oregon, just off Highway 99 between Ashland and Medford, I bet the slightly snooty Ashland residents would like me to mention that KAPL's transmitter is located in south Medford instead of Ashland.

I probably should lament the loss of an old legacy station like KKOL going off the air, as it dated back to 1922 in Seattle, but having 1300 kHz open for DXing is kind of nice!

Hey, Redhat!

Just tuned in at 0408 UTC and hearing the Tubes' "White Punks on Dope" well via the local SDR in Machias, WA. Just a bit of fading and static at times.

As of 0410 UTC, I now have the signal on my own radio using just the whip, but the fading and noise are worse than on the SDR, which no doubt has a better antenna.

Redhat played a canned ID at 0414 UTC, chatted a bit and went into "Abacab" by Genesis. Now listening via Northern Utah SDR, as the local fading got bad.

"Lisztomania" by Phoenix at 0421 UTC. Signal's currently booming into the Utah SDR I'm listening to. Canned ID at 0425 UTC, then "Banditos" by The Refreshments. After a quick ID, Redhat mentioned the upcoming song was a request then played "Feel Good Drag" by Anberlin.

After the song, at 0433 UTC, Redhat chatted a bit, played an ID and introduced the 3 Doors Down song "Loser." After that, at 0437 UTC, a bit of chatting into "Still in Love Song" by The Stills.

After a canned ID at 0441 UTC, "No Bullets Spent" by Spoon. After another ID at 0444 UTC, "Bittersweet" by Fuel. At 0448 UTC, Redhat talked a bit about modern rock, read a reception email, talked about his previous transmitter woes and recapped the last few songs over background electronic music.

OK, off to a late dinner ...

... And back from dinner at 0526 UTC, just in time to hear a remix of Motorcycle's "As the Rush Comes," which is an all-time favorite of mine. That song's lived on my iPod for a decade now. At 0536 UTC, "Ghost Voices" by Virtual Self after a bit of inter-song chatter by Redhat.

Then I sat back and listened to the songs, ones by Goo Goo Dolls, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Nigel Stanford and Filter among them. Around 0615 UTC, Redhat gave a long list of shoutouts (including to me) and said his goodbyes as The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" swelled. Signoff after an ID around 0626 UTC. I listened to this last part via the local SDR again up here; the signal was weak but audible.

Good as always to hear ya! Glad that doing this is "your vacation."
