The Starlink satellite internet system will make over the air (AM FM TV HF) radio and TV much less important since people will be able get radio and TV to underserved areas around the world. It will be interesting to see in the future how well over the air broadcasts will survive in the long term as more people around the world get connected to the net.

This forum is used to make money (by some) that leads to the all problems noted here (finally exposed).  Instead of being a free exchange of designs and ideas of many people to achieve a goal that all can benefit from.

I think there's plenty of room here for both. Commercial products can exist side by side with "free" (I assume you mean open / public domain). The former doesn't preclude discussions of the latter. Some people do not have the equipment (or technical ability) to build their own equipment, or don't want to.

Well coming from someone that also sales stuff I can understand your view as you understand mine.

Equipment / Re: R390A
« on: April 26, 2019, 1809 UTC »
I have both the A version and the non A version R390. From my tests the R390 performs better on not overloading in the broadcast band with strong signals like the R390A which you can correct. The A version has a different mixing scenario and has one less RF front end tube in it. Being a cost reduction version. The R90A filters are great being a improvement over the non A. I have a SDR interface taped off before the IF filter stage for a wide 50Kc spectrum display or off the IF output up to 16kc wide. This brings the R390/A up to great performance with SDR software.

1530 S5 into VA SDR with a very nice set of music.
2020 S6 holding up well for a 20 watt carrier.

:D That's Insane dude. The IQ wonder if you encoded with a phase delay, if you could get out a pseudo stereo effect?
Viva -

There are different ways you can produce stereo in your transmission. But most of all the listeners won't bother to decode it anyway. A easy way is just to post process the audio with pseudo stereo in real time that way any station that is listened to will have this effect. Even though it is not true stereo the I/Q with its 90 degree phase shift between L /R sounds cool.

For Sale / Wanted / Barter / Re: DDS Signal Generator PCB

The AD9850 (seen in the photo of this DDS ) and AD9851 DDS boards off eBay do not use a TCXO oscillatior time base so they will drift around a bit. If you use it for AM that's fine. If you want high stablity I would change it to a .1 PPM TCXO this can be easily added to the AD9851 30 MHz time base. You can buy the TCXO off eBay. The DDS I designed is better than .01 Hz stability.
