Odd sound and signal looks like USB. Thought it might be some artifacts fro a nearby MW but couldn't find any that matched the pattern. Initially, there was a carrier along with it but it went away at 1300
1330 UTC also picking it up on both of the Brownsville Kiwis. There is a station on 9230, the noise is on the upper side of that freq, probably about 8kc wide.
Picked up on this application for a DRM international shortwave station. Why "hmmmm"? I've wondered, and please, if anyone knows the real answer let me know, but the WINB DRM broadcast uses only half of the occupied bandwidth for audio. When you look at the signal on a panadaptor, the lower sideband is a bunch of not decodable carriers that are seemingly not related to the upper sideband information which can be decoded to audio. A while back I read about companies proposing to use point to point HF links to eliminate the internet lag in stock trading. They would place these HF link stations near major hubs to give an advantage in split second transactions. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-06-17/companies-pitch-shortwave-radio-to-shave-milliseconds-off-trades Back to our story.. The interesting part is Exhibit V-5 where it states there is to be a DRM modulator and a separate Datacasting modulator. This appears to be a way to skirt the rules and do a point-to-point, encrypted data transmission in the International Broadcast Service slots under the guise of a religious broadcaster. And the proposed site is close to the CME Data Center. But yet... Here Be Pirates!!
0258 - some station has been playing 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown' continuously since about 5pm. Sounds cool fading in and out. Top about s9 or so down to nothing and back.
0335 UTC - dominating the frequency. Lot of transmitters trying to drown him out to no avail. All fading slowly into the background. Love it.
0350 - Spanish programming - S6 0400 - TOH ID music - English, two IDs then carrier cut off. 0408 - Popped back on with what sounded like national anthem, then English ID, propaganda/news with lots of echo 0410 - S9 on vertical.
0425 - Good condx - getting them on 15180, 13760 and 11735, all about same signal at one point or another.
Also at only about S3 with the French programming on 15105 and 13650
Since the hoarding began, I noticed a lot of InterMom traffic on the FRS/GMRS freqs coming from the three big stores near me. "Jill, meet me in aisle 11", "They still have brown eggs", "Bobby, grab tortillas", etc.
