Part 15 AM and FM Station Operation / Re: Part 15 AM and FM
« on: April 04, 2020, 1949 UTC »

Got one on 89.5 covering my neighborhood + some

Ramsey transmitter, indoor dipole, driving the transmitter with a PC running RadioDJ into a Orban 1101e. I have a separate one on 1680 kHz as well, but seriously only covers the house and backyard.

Low bitrate pre-processor stream http://s2.free-shoutcast.com:18594/listen.pls?sid=1 from the FM station.

Other / MomComms

Since the hoarding began, I noticed a lot of InterMom traffic on the FRS/GMRS freqs coming from the three big stores near me. "Jill, meet me in aisle 11", "They still have brown eggs", "Bobby, grab tortillas", etc.

Also lots of Dads and kids playing prepper comms.

1100 UTC - two stations conversing, one one S7, the other S3 - sounded like Portuguese

There are other carriers there, just not strong enough. Almost looks like a talkaround channel. The signals are all slightly off center frequency.

Hearing more unusual signals hitting the local repeaters, so Baofeng sales are probably up.

Too bad Tecsun doesn't include DRM reception or at least an IF out.

Back in the 80s I used to hear someone's cordless phone base unit (I believe this was on 1610 kHz or so?) from a distance of about 10 miles. Must have been a foreign model with a lot of power.

The old Midland cordless phones from the early-mid 80's used 1610kHz for the base to handset, and 49MHz fro handset to base. I turned mine into a radio station.

The base output apparently was coupled back in to the power line for antenna so I was able to pick it up several blocks away as long as I stayed in the same alley where the utility lines ran.
