As info,  I QIW is currently on the air for a few hours to take advantage of the good 22m propagation.  I'm hearing 3-4 22m CW beacons right now as well.

Utility / 3.370 mhz usb net?
« on: January 29, 2023, 0303 UTC »
I am receiving an unknown net on 3.370 mhz usb with call signs 6HW, 6KB, 6KL, and a few others in voice and a digital mode "sending traffic".   Voice discussion cocerns failure of some call signs/stations to receive and decode the digital communications.  Any idea what this net is?

S3 to S5 copy here in NW Indiana outside of Chicagoland at 0225 UTC with some fast beat techno / dance beat.    Radio is IC-7300 with a G5RV antenna up about ~20 feet .  Into a new song at 0227 UTC with just as fast a beat.  I feel like I am back in college.

Temporary beacon until it gets shipped to my father in Utah.    "DAD"  located in Northwest Indiana (Grid EN61).   Beacon TX is running into a G5RV antenna up about 40 feet.   Let me know if you copy this one.    Once "DAD" gets shipped,  "QIW" will go back on the air.

Happy hunting!
Alex

The RF Workbench / Re: Need help: coax feed to a wire antenna
« on: February 14, 2022, 0329 UTC »
If you want to go on the "cheap", make the connection in a plastic box of some sort,   sealing the holes where you ran the wire and coax into the box with a good sealant.   For the actual wire connection between the wire and the coax what is now safe,  use Gardner-Bender's liquid tape.   A few coats would natually be better than one.   Other options exist like using shrink tubing with diaelctric grease underneath as well. You may have better luck using a good coax to wire connector instead of directly wiring the connections...but...that is up to you.

HF Beacons / Re: The 'Coast Slider' 4109.5
« on: February 14, 2022, 0302 UTC »
Nothing here in NW Indiana right now.    I lived in the Fresno area for 6 years so I feel for the beacon's owner comments about water / hiking...even this time a year there it gets HOT.   I'd love to see a schematic of the beacon, with particular interest in the solar portion.
