Pirate Radio Boston is up on 6950 AM with a really nice S9+10 signal. Reading listener letters, including from jfarley. Anniversary show. Authentic Boston area accents. Sounds great here; thanks PRB!

Long open carrier with no audio, with audio starting at 0207 UTC and a "Pirate Radio Boston" ID. Then into an alt-rock song. Nice S9+20 signal.

Shortwave Broadcast / Galei Zahal 6885 KHz AM 2249 UTC 10/14
« on: October 14, 2012, 2250 UTC »
Presumed Galei Zahal on 6885 KHz AM at 2249 UTC. Chris noticed this a little earlier. It is worth noting that Galei Zahal was on 6973 AM as usual earlier this evening but has disappeared. It seems to have popped up on 6885 KHz but since I can't speak Hebrew, I can't positively ID it. Everything fits though. I don't believe there is any record of them on this frequency.

The Crystal Ship just opened on 6850.4 AM at 2356 UTC with snippets of the Doors and "Bottle of Rum". Not terribly strong, but a copy-able S8-ish with a kind of high noise level tonight.

Other / 6974.6 KHz mystery carrier 2310 UTC
« on: September 23, 2012, 2320 UTC »
I have a very big carrier on 6974.6 with no apparent modulation. It's been on at least since I tuned in 10 minutes ago at 2310 UTC. Making it pretty difficult to copy Israel on 6973.

Equipment / SSTran AMT5000 mediumwave transmitter
« on: July 30, 2012, 1409 UTC »
I was browsing around and found that SSTRAN is now selling a new transmitter, called the AMT5000:

http://www.sstran.com/#AMT5000

Years ago I built one of the AMT3000 kits and it was fun and easy to put together. Works amazingly well for around the house and neighborhood broadcasting. The AMT5000 looks like a nice step up. The owner of SSTRAN is really responsive.

Has anyone built one of these yet? Looks like it would be a fun winter project.
