ID and then Night Moves at 0202z. Peaking at S9+15. Nice showing by Captain Morgan tonight.

Someone should start a fund for the purpose of WA1HLR acquiring this.

A sad thing. I visited Bush House about a decade ago. As a radio nerd, it felt like a pilgrimage. The question that comes to mind, is this an inevitable reflection of evolving technology or is it a reflection of the decline (and, seemingly, surrender) of Western influence. Or just plain indifference to news, issues and current events?

Off at 2255z. Was a solid S9 the whole way through.

Still going strong at 0221z. Signal has come up a bit, in fact. Nice copy, easy S9 at this point.

I didn't do much, if any, QSLing early in my listening career so I don't have much reference material to look back on. But I pretty vividly remember my first shortwave pirate being Radio EXP, probably on 7415 KHz AM and early on what was likely a winter Sunday morning. Probably 1990, perhaps 1989. This station was mentioned in Andy Yoder's books of the era but little comes up in Google. I think the announcer's name was Dr. Blue or something like that.

Right around that time, thanks to Andy's books, I was also looking on mediumwave but with much less success. To this date, the only hobby pirate I've heard on mediumwave was a station that ID'd as WORM on or about 1620 KHz playing the Doors. Same timeframe, about 1990. Never saw this one reported anywhere else.

This was the dawn of a pretty active SW pirate radio era and it was a good time, from 1990 until about 1994 when I dropped out of the hobby for about 10 years.

This is one of the greatest albums of all time, BTW. Second Toughest in the Infants. Thanks WMPR. Brings back some mid-90's vibes.

The "Dog Fish Mafia" were back tonight. This time on 6321.8 USB at around 0011z on 6/4/2012. This was the same crew on 6925 USB yesterday. They were all (accented) English tonight. Here's a clip:

The 6925 USB crew were back around 1615z. I caught the tail end of their conversation, in English.

Warning: colorful language. This is distinctly not the crew that was on 6959.5 earlier. The 6959.5 guys are from the Boston area. These guys, I'm not sure where they are based out of.
