I have Fox 48 (operator confirmed via Iann's) with "Living in America" on 6950 LSB at 2145z on 9/15. Signal is about S2.

I am hearing it here in the Boston burbs. It's at least S7, perhaps peaking to S9. Very strange.

Flying Dog Radio is up on 6925 USB with an ID at 0012z. Nice signal, S9+20. Opened with "Taking Care of Business" and then into "Horse With No Name" after the ID. flyingdogradio@gmail.com

There is slow speed CW being heard underneath the 6916.6 signal. The CW is weak, but definitely there. 2344z.

Just tuned it in for the first time. I have the frequency as 6916.6 and it's maybe S3, possibly S4. Was an empty carrier but now it has some really bizarre modulation that I can't even describe. Echo-y feedback kind of noise that ends with a more pronounced 1-second data burst, then back to empty carrier.

Any of the amateur transceivers, like an IC-718, will make and excellent communications receiver. The receiver in the IC-718 is really not any different from the IC-R75.

Great signal here in the Boston area! S9 with light fading. Great audio, and a nice clear frequency. Playing the Doors and then into Moby's Trouble So Hard at 2031z.

I switched from my IC-7410 with an 80m dipole to station B, which is a TS-590 with a 40m dipole and copy is much better now. Live ID at 0057z. Really nice audio.

If you don't want to shell out the $$$ for an EZ Hang, just get your hands on a cheap slingshot and some 1 oz steel sinkers (please don't use lead). Get a big spool of 20lb-ish test monofilament fishing line, and some masonary line (from Home Depot).
Lay out a zig zag pattern of the fishing line on the ground in front of you. Estimate about what you would need to get it over the tree in question, but don't cut it from the spool, just let the spool lie there on the ground too. But the zig zag pattern on the ground is important, so that it easily (and with minimal friction) flies up into the air. Tie a sinker to the end of the fishing line.
Hold the slingshot with a gloved hand (the hand you use to pull the sling back can be bare) and, wearing goggles, fire that sinker up to were you want the line to go. It almost always pays off to aim higher than where you really want it. With some practice this works well. Next, use the fishing line that has been launched over the tree to pull the masonary line up over the tree. Masonary line is much stronger than the fishing line you just used, and is also "slippery" and doesn't knot. Finally, use the masonary line to pull your antenna rope over the tree, which really should be the good UV resistant dacron type stuff they sell on eBay or at Ham Radio Outlet. Rope from Home Depot will not work well at all for antennas. Use real antenna rope, it's worth the money.

Good antenna rope is not all that expensive either; I've found the Davis RF stuff on eBay to be excellent and I believe this is also the stuff that Ham Radio Outlet stocks. It lasts forever, doesn't kink, and is really is easy to work with.
