Also hearing it again at 1902 UTC here in the Boston burbs, S9+30 with a new-wave-ish punk song. Great audio and signal!

« on: December 25, 2009, 1444 UTC »
I just turned on the radio and caught the very tail end of the WHYP "Brownyard Family Christmas" with a 1441 UTC sign-off. The AM signal was booming here in the Boston burbs.

I didn't record the exact times, but they were very strong here in the Boston area this evening, up until shutdown. Peaking at S9+10. They were responding very quickly to emails. I made a brief appearance on the air with Chris Ise, via Skype.

North American Shortwave Pirate / WMR "We Monkey Radio" 11/15
« on: November 15, 2008, 1910 UTC »
WMR seems to have picked up right where WTPR left off at around 1905 UTC on 6925 USB, with an announcer who repeats the ID and also states he likes to play short songs since monkeys have short attention spans. S9.

Created a new Wiki article for this one: http://www.hfunderground.com/wiki/WMR

Extremely awesome S9+20 here in Massachusetts at 1854 UTC. "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)" then star spangled banner followed by Paul Starr laugh. Abruptly off at 1855.

Utility / Open carrier on 6733 KHz.
« on: October 25, 2008, 0153 UTC »
I've had an open carrier on 6733 KHz for several hours now, 10/25/08 @ 0153 UTC. Seems long path in nature and takes deep fades. Peaks at S8 here in Eastern Massachusetts.

That's just nuts >:(

Wasn't Alaska going to use that DRM crap too? So each station will be a good 20KHz wide ::)

Peace!

The Alaskan DRM project is still cooking, supposedly. It uses an allocation at 26 MHz. Not much else going on there, so I wouldn't worry about it. More here: http://klixie.com/26mhz/

Shortwave Broadcast / Re: Is DRM the next AM Stereo?
« on: October 25, 2008, 0146 UTC »
Wasn't Alaska talking about DRM shortwave to cover the state with radio broadcasts from central locations? ???

I believe that is still on the drawing board.

There is a site tracking and advocating US DRM broadcasting on 26 MHz here: http://klixie.com/26mhz/

Spy Numbers / Re: Homebrew numbers startions
« on: October 25, 2008, 0143 UTC »
Not to disparage your endeavor, but there are a few flaws. The obvious one being to put this out on CB radio. I don't think many CBers would enjoy listening to this. Why not find yourself a frequency agile HF rig and get on the numbers stations' "home turf" and maybe confuse or entertain some ute or pirate listeners? Your idea would receive more attention, probably.

There have been, in the past, numbers spoof stations. That might be a little more interesting. One in the near past used clips of Brother Stair, and another much older one used popular Mexican foods instead of numbers. They are funny when they show up... occasionally.
