S9+20 but taking some long fades off of that. Good audio.

S9 +20 here. Super signal. Bluegrass, as noted. Sounds great!

UNID. Asian traditional music, then CW, then back to music. Probable Ronin. We'll see.

Edit: Positive Ronin ID at 0001 UTC (12/1/2013).

Utility / UNID 6906.1 KHz USB mil/DHS ops 2136 UTC+ 11/30
« on: November 30, 2013, 2138 UTC »
First spotted by several on the #pirateradio IRC channel, we have some USB comms in American English on 6906.1 (approximate) USB mode that sound like they could be a US military exercise. Tracking simulation with callsigns including TORINO, CORVETTE, KILO, HELLCAT 53, WOODPECKER, VOLCANO, CITY HALL and perhaps others. Speculation on #wunclub is this could be USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH (CVN 77) training/testing activity off of Florida. Thanks to mco, N2UHC and Token for help.

The RF Workbench / Re: High Powered Pirates
« on: November 30, 2013, 0305 UTC »
The only unmentioned high power operation I can recall offhand is the ill-fated mobile Voice of Laryngitis relayer from about 20 years ago.  He was transmitting non-stop from a van hurtling down the Interstate highways and was eventually busted hundreds of miles later with a 1KW linear amplifier.  And it seemed like such a good idea...

I recall this bust too. Operator was an ACE editor. Busted in Colorado, or Kansas. FCC and Marshals threw up a roadblock to grab him. Slightly more than 20 years ago, I believe. 1991-ish? The ACE did a good job burying it so the gory details largely remained in the shadows of the rumors.

As kilokat7 mentioned, Hope Radio was very high power. The operator was from the 75 meter AM scene and valued high quality audio and watts. The shows were immensely entertaining and involved numerous members of the 75 meter AM scene, some of whom continue to be very well known. A great station, and the operator put a lot of heart into it. The FCC field office in his jurisdiction really had it out for him and had him punished hard. I believe he lost his ham license for many years, and went abroad to get away from it all, but has returned and is on the air again (legally, with a new call sign) on 75 meters from time to time. He has a distinctive voice and personality, instantly recognizable if you ever heard Hope Radio.

Those were some formative pirate radio days for me.

S9+20 with fake announcement by the Queen at 2115 UTC. Seems to be the same show as the other night. Nice audio and signal.

Mustang peaking at an incredible S9+20 on 6325 KHz with Boston (the band) and then shouts out. Awesome signal! It's still daylight out!

668
S9+20 at 1942 UTC. Song alternating between kids singing and a guy with a deep voice. Then an ID by Moishe.

Utility / UNID CANFORCE 6855 KHz USB 2100 UTC 11/28/13
« on: November 29, 2013, 0159 UTC »
Right at about 2100 UTC I happened to see some quick USB comms on the waterfall on 6855 KHz. Replaying the conversation, which lasted just 30 seconds, it seemed to be CANFORCE with some kind of air-ground check-in. I caught some quick presumed CANFORCE activity here back in February of this year.

I can't quite understand the callsigns being used. They speak rapidly and with a (again, presumed) Canadian accent. Here is the clip in case anyone can recognize the call signs:
