MW logs with the Jakarta Indonesia KiwiSDR
« on: August 19, 2022, 0514 UTC »
I was very happy to notice yesterday that the KiwiSDR in Jakarta, Indonesia is back online! It has been gone for months but when it is working is receives many interesting stations on MW and SW from its location. Here is a list of stations I have heard on MW with that receiver. Sadly it seems any Indonesian stations outside of Jakarta are completely drowned out by higher powered stations from other counties (mostly China). Times are all from today (18/19 Aug in UTC) unless otherwise noted. Note that Pirate radio stations are common in Indonesia and I have identified multiple pirate stations. They operate more like regular commercial stations rather than the hobby stations found on shortwave in Europe and North America. Asiawaves.net has been very helpful in identifying stations. If anyone knows the identify of any UNID stations or the subcontinental or middle eastern-like music many stations play please let me know.

Thank you to Alan Davies of Asiawaves.net. He was able to provide the correct identifications of many stations.

522-Radio Silaturahim (spur or mixing product)
Talk program with bits of music at 2345 UTC, very weak and under strong local QRM from 515-532 kHz. Below the MW band. Same programming as 720 kHz.

540-Radio Republik Indonesia Bandung
Weak carrier, lots of QRM from 549 kHz

549-Radio Inyong
Gamelan music heard at 2355 UTC and many other times. This stations seems to have Gamelan music as its format. S9+20 and wide signal.

630-Radio Samhan
English language oldie at 2357 UTC with announcer occasionally singing along. S9+20 signal.

666-Radio Suara Perubahan
Modulation is usually extremely low and under noise in the signal itself. Indonesian pop music at 0001 UTC. Modulation getting better at 0007 UTC with more pop music. New station not yet listed on Asiawaves.net.

675-Radio Syiar Tauhid
Arabic talk at 0009 UTC. Quran readings heard at many other times. S9+20 with some noise in the signal itself.

693-Radio Muara
Slightly overmodulated Indonesian pop music at 0011 UTC. Very wide S9+20 signal.

720-Radio Silaturahim
Indonesian pop music at 0012 UTC then talk in Indonesian at 0013 UTC. 20 kHz wide signal at S9+40.

774-Ismail Radio
Nothing heard at 0014 UTC but strong at 1700 UTC with Arabic religious programming.

792-Radio As Syafi'iyah
Indonesian pop music at 0156 UTC. S9 signal.

864-Radio Republik Indonesia Cirebon
Indonesian pop music at 0158 UTC. S7 signal.

909-Radio Suara Guntur Laras
Indonesian talk program at 0159 UTC, continuing past 0200 UTC with no interruption. Wider modulation on LSB than USB. S9 signal.

936-Radio P2SC
Indonesian talk program at 0203 UTC, sounds like ads or similar at 0204 UTC. S9+10 signal.

954-Radio BaBe
Talk with music in the background at 0206 UTC. Canned ID at 0208 UTC. The signal is a mess appearing to have many carriers on the waterfall. Only sounds good in AM with SSB producing a garbled and buzzy mess and FM producing barely any audio. Sync AM can’t lock on to a carrier. S9+20 signal.

963-Radio Radeska
Talk with gamelan music in the background at 0218 UTC. Lots of QRM from 954 kHz. Start of a gamelan song at 0218 UTC. S9 but very narrow, about 2 kHz per sideband.

981-Radio Pesona Jakarta
Program with talk between an announcer and someone on the phone in Indonesian. Very unstable carrier around 981.03 kHz (that’s not an unusual amount of drift for an Indonesian station but most are stable on their offset frequency, not varying around like this). S9 signal with more modulation on USB than LSB.

1017v-Radio Angkasa Suara Semesta (pirate?)
Indonesian pop music (?) at 0224 UTC. Jingle at 0225 UTC then more music with an announcer talking over the beginning. Possible technical difficulties at 0228 UTC trying to set up a phone call. This station has drifted all the way down to 1015.64 kHz with an unstable and unusually wide carrier. S9 signal.

1044-i-Dream Radio
Talk in Indonesian at 0231 UTC. Some noise in the signal itself. S9+20 signal.

1062-Radio Raja AM
Unknown genre of music at 0233 UTC, sounds similar to subcontinental music. Next song of the same genre at 0236 UTC with no announcer between the songs. S7 signal.

1080v-Radio Gema Pesona Muda
Talk in Indonesian at 0238 UTC. Indonesian pop music being interrupted by the announcer at 0239 UTC. Unstable carrier around 1080.32 kHz. Lots of QRM from 1089 kHz. Almost all modulation on LSB. S7 signal.

1089-Radio Daarul Qur'an
Quran readings at 0242 UTC. Wide S9+20 signal.

1134-Radio Safari
Overmodulated music, possibly old Indonesian pop music (?) at 0244 UTC. Better sound at other times. S9+20 signal.

1161v-UNID (Pirate?)
Nothing heard today but heard until sign off at 1800 UTC on Aug 17. The signal was a mess and fairly weak. A station on the exact frequency listed for Radio RON (the original presumed identity) was heard on October 5 with completely different modulation so the identity of this station is unknown.

1179-Radio GES (Pirate?)
Unknown genre of music at 0248 UTC, sounds similar to subcontinental music. Talk in Indonesian at 0249 UTC. Weak S7 signal.

1197v-Radio Swara Mitra
Gamelan music at 0605 UTC. Signal is a mess that appears similar to QRM on the waterfall. Impossible to tell what frequency the station is actually on.

1242-Radio Republik Indonesia Bogor
Can't Take My Eyes Off You by Morten Harket at 0252 UTC. 20 kHz wide S9+40 signal.

1269-Berlain Radio (Pirate?)
Unknown genre of music at 0256 UTC. Talk in Indonesian at 0258 UTC, next song at 0259 UTC. Very weak S7, at or below the noise.

1296v-Radio Kawula Muda
Exact frequency is 1295.59 kHz. Unknown genre of music at 0303 UTC, sounds similar to subcontinental music. Music interrupted by announcer at 0306 UTC. S7 signal.

1359-Mitta Radio
Unknown genre of music at 0308 UTC, sounds similar to subcontinental music. Weak S7 signal.

1368-Radio Attaqwa
Talk in Indonesian with music in the background at 0310 UTC, possibly an advertisement. S9 signal but only about 1.5 kHz bandwidth per sideband. Canned ID at 0311 UTC.

1386-Radio Muara (harmonic)
Talk between an announcer and someone on the phone at 0314 UTC. 693 kHz X 2. ID heard at 0428 UTC. S7 signal.

1395-Boss Radio (Pirate?)
Unknown genre of music at 0428 UTC, sounds similar to subcontinental music. Next similar music at 0429 UTC. Very strange looking modulation that only sounds good in AM. QRM from 1404 kHz. S7 signal.

1404-Radio Kenangan Lestari
Pop music song started at 0435 UTC then quickly cut off and replaced with subcontinental-like music, then that was cut off after about 30 seconds and other song of the same genre came on. Announcer said something at 0436 UTC over the music. Pop music at 0438 UTC, briefly spoken over by the announcer. Slightly overmodulated. New station not yet listed on Asiawaves.net. Very strong and wide S9 signal.

1422v-Refa Music Radio (Pirate?)
Pop music (?) at 0441 UTC. Drifted all the way up to 1422.84 kHz with a slightly unstable carrier. Most of the modulation is on LSB. S7 signal.

1440-Radio Silaturahim (harmonic)
Quran readings at 0443 UTC with talk between readings. 720 kHz X 2. S7 signal.

1494-UNID (Pirate?)
Possible Quran readings at 0452 UTC, sounds like two stations mixing together. Signal is a mess (looks like local QRM) and sounds terrible as well. Only Radio Swara Kasih is listed for this frequency but it is listed as possibly inactive. Amazingly, Radio Swara Kasih actually streams online and while the 1494 kHz signal is very poor it doesn’t appear to match the stream. S5 signal.

1530-Radio Masjid Sunda Kelapa
Talk at 0458 UTC, sounds like Arabic. S9 signal.

1557v-Radio Pesona Nostalgia (Pirate?)
Quran readings at 0501 UTC. Drifted all the way down to 1555.51 kHz. S7 signal.

Songs are identified with Shazam if needed. I usually use KiwiSDR receivers. Reception from my QTH is using an SDRPlay RSP1A for SWL with a 40 meter band Inverted V at 40 feet. Kenwood TS-570D for ham use.

August 20 logs

Today I am trying to record station ID's from the many UNID stations so I will be spending less time tuning around.

1161v?-UNID (Pirate?)
Horrible drift, drifting almost 100 hz within seconds around 1157 kHz. Modulation is a mess not only drifting but also muffled and with most modulation on USB. Call in program at 1512 UTC. KiwiSDR offline again at 1517 UTC. Not sure if this is supposed to be on 1161 kHz or 1152 kHz. Nothing listed with this much drift. KiwiSDR back online at 1533 UTC and this station is now playing music, not sure of genre due poor audio quality. S5 signal.

801-Radio Republik Indonesia Semarang
Gamelan music at 1610 UTC. S7 signal

1026v-UNID (Pirate?)
Horribly drifty and poorly modulated audio, similar to 1161v kHz. Unknown genre of music at 1619 UTC. Brief bit of the chicken dance at 1623 UTC then back to unknown Indonesian music. Dead air for a few minuets starting at 1655 UTC. Music back on at 1659 UTC. Nothing listed on this frequency for Indonesia. S7 at best, often fades. Drift is about 400 hz.

1098-Prolita Radio X
Talk in Indonesian at 1741 UTC. Start of a song of an unknown genre at 1742 UTC. Very poor modulation, narrow, drifty, distorted, and mostly on LSB. Some QRM from other carriers on 1098 kHz. S5 signal.

1107-UNID
Gamelan music at 2222 UTC. Nothing listed for Jakarta and only Radio Republik Indonesia Yogyakarta listed for Indonesia. A comparison to the online stream of RRI shows that this is a different station. S9 signal.

1035-Radio Elfas Sonia
News in Indonesian at 2305 UTC. S9 signal.

1008-Radio Republik Indonesia Madiun
News in Indonesian at 2307 UTC. Clear ID at 2311 UTC. S5 signal until suddenly faded to far below the noise at 2316 UTC.

1584-Radio Cempaka Suara (Pirate?)
Talk in Indonesian at 0426 UTC. Music (too weak to identify genre) at 0427 UTC. S5 signal.

1305-Radio Syaibah (Pirate?)
Weak music at 0434 UTC. Labeled R. Syaibah by Kiwi owner. S5 signal.

1440-Radio Silaturahim (harmonic)
ID in English at 0500 UTC then Indonesian "Your listening to Radio Silaturahim for united Islam". 720 kHz X 2. S7 signal.

Does this mean that you speak Bahasa Indonesia or was the part you transcribed in English?
