You didn't mention from where you were listening but there is a  some sort of broadcast (low power, pirate?) in Sturgis, SD on the frequency playing Classic Rock.  I don't believe really a pirate.

Huh... It doesn't come up on Radio locator. Here in SW WV, I still mainly hear that pest TIS from NJ on 1710AM. However, I have occasionally heard a few notes of tunage in there with it and wondered about that. Certainly, nothing that I could possibly ID with that damned TIS in there. Huh...
I was asked, yet another weird question, of how I would like to be buried, when I finally bite the big one. The answer was actually pretty easy. Face-down, like a certain historical figure in the late 1980's, (I will not mention who, but some of you will get it, and that's enough.) Why??? It would be a burial that will satisfy everyone: (1) My enemies will say that it will show me where to go. (2) On the same point, I can have my enemies kiss my butt. (3) It will temporarily give someone a place to park a bicycle. See??? A WIN / WIN for everyone.

05:00 UTC - I can hear someone speaking (non-English) down into the background noise but the station is too weak unreadable and fading in and out from my location.
05:02 UTC - Now in English, something about direction (of travel) and a web address: www.??.com for further information.

That is the Hudson County travellers information station on this frequency.

I can’t hear a signal other than the Hudson County TIS on any receiver  :(

Still going at 1850 UTC! Got it on the N4DKD KiwiSDR in Alabama.

Songs are identified with Shazam if needed. I usually use KiwiSDR receivers. Reception from my QTH is using an SDRPlay RSP1A for SWL with a 40 meter band Inverted V at 40 feet. Kenwood TS-570D for ham use.

Ref the  Hudson County TIS, not bad for a 10 watt station.
FCC Universal Licensing System: WQFG689

I did find a thread indicating that the power was increased during the COVID pandemic "increase power from 10 to 100 watts for 90 days or the cessation of the national emergency, whichever occurs first" and that as of March 2021 "WQFG689 does still appear to be transmitting with increased power".

Unknown at this time if the station is operating at 10 or 100 watts.

Here in Springfield, Massachusetts I am located about 2-1/2 miles from the Springfield Armory National Historic Site with it's TIS on 1710 AM "broadcasting with 10 powerful watts of powerful sound atop Springfield Technical Community College". It is S9 24/7/365 and rarely does anything overpower it, although I have heard the NJ TIS and Radio Corsair in the past. The announcement is looped. It is about a minute 28 seconds long and a YL speaks over an unid big band instrumental. Here is what it sounds like from my location.

Here is my recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtVLdmJh9Y4

Please have a listen and see if you can tell what the station ID says. It is at the very start of the recording. I have listened to it repeatedly and I think it might be "Your listening to shortwave 1710" but I'm not sure. I had recorded longer but YouTube sucks and it wouldn't let me publish the whole recording because it had Take It Easy by The Eagles in it  >:(

They are still running at 100 watts.   This is why 1710 is not a good frequency choice for pirates, 1720 and above would be better.

For folks in the upper South, the state of KY. uses 530 and 1710 for TIS starting at roughly at and west of I-65.

There are so many TIS's on 1710 these days, unless you're hearing an actual broadcast clearly, it's hard to tell what it is.
