Radio Quillabamba 5025 AM 0204 UTC 16 Sep 2022
« on: September 16, 2022, 0213 UTC »
Exact frequency is 5025.02 kHz with some slight drift. S7 with the Caribbean Netherlands KiwiSDR. Only audible because Radio Rebelde from Cuba on the same frequency has been off air recently. I meant to check earlier and forgot but I will tomorrow. I suggest that anyone who wants to hear this rarely heard Peruvian do so sooner rather than later.

0204 UTC-Talk over music, off about 30 seconds after tune in

Songs are identified with Shazam if needed. I usually use KiwiSDR receivers. Reception from my QTH is using an SDRPlay RSP1A for SWL with a 40 meter band Inverted V at 40 feet. Kenwood TS-570D for ham use.

Wonder why Radio Rebelde is missing? I noticed it's been out for over a week now....

Unfortunately, Radio Rebelde is back today and reception of Radio Quillabamba is once again impossible :(

They're having massive electric problems in Cuba recently, so there's a good chance it'll be gone again at some point soon.

Sept 25 observations:

5025, clear of Cuba from 0753+ UT; so from 1039 to 1050 UT, had Peru (R. Quillabamba) reception; a pleasure to now
hear Peru without Cuban QRM! Absence of Cuba also helped the reception of SIBC (Solomon Islands), on 5020.

5040, heard with Radio Rebelde (ex 5025) still on the air at 1105 UT.

Huh. I wondered if something was different -- 5025 sounded much more muddled to me, and I noticed 5040 was gone.

It's been decades since I'd heard SIBC, if Rebelde is off again I'm going to have to try.

I heard a weak SS station on that frequency last night, (9/29) just before 2:00 UTC, but I wasn't able to get any kind of an I.D., just some guy talking.
