Weird Brazilian Peskies 6970 LSB 2050 UTC 2 Sep 2022
« on: September 02, 2022, 2103 UTC »
I first heard this today around 1600 UTC with the PY2GN KiwiSDR in São Paulo, Brazil. First I heard a guy talking to himself and playing music and sound effects. I have just tuned in again at 2050 UTC and I hear what sounds like the citizens band. Lots of stations calling over top of each other and some using echo/reverb. Currently recording and I will post the recording. I have never heard Peskies behave like this, their nets are usually fairly organized. Strong signals, loudest station is S9+35. Very wide SSB audio.

Songs are identified with Shazam if needed. I usually use KiwiSDR receivers. Reception from my QTH is using an SDRPlay RSP1A for SWL with a 40 meter band Inverted V at 40 feet. Kenwood TS-570D for ham use.

I recently asked a Portuguese speaker about these stations. They said the ones in my recording had a Northern Brazilian accent and were talking about work.

Nothing like local knowledge to ID these things.

I used to hunt Europirates just above 49 meters years ago. A lot of oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico hung out in the same region. There was a guy on one who was having a torrid radio affair with a woman in Florida that went on for months. He didn't have the brains to figure out his wife in Texas could hear him, too.

A guy was calling for him one night and one of his coworkers came back to say he didn't work for them anymore, he was back in Texas.
